T-Shirt

Sun 7 December 2008 Leave a comment Go to comments

There have been several calls for FIOFAFI T-shirts, most recently by Shankar, Sam and Dirk.

To keep it simple, I’ll start with a FIOFAFI design in black on a red or white T-shirt.

At least there won’t be any more excuses for not having a white or red T-shirt.

I’ve gotten a few quotes. The best price for one T-shirt is S$10 + cost for each design/number of T-shirts ordered +$0.40 per colour + GST.

The cost for each design is S$40, so if we get a minimum of 10 orders, the price of each T-shirt should not exceed S$15. Of course, the more orders we get, the cheaper it gets, down towards S$10.

Just to be clear, you’ll be getting the T-shirts at cost – I’m not looking to make anything from this.

I’m proposing one of the two simple designs a simple design along the lines shown below (click on the thumbnails for a larger view):

Design A

Design B

There are currently four options for the wording, taking into account the suggestions in the comments below. Vote for your preference below. I’ll go with the one which has more votes by the end of Friday, 12 December 2008.

As for the web address, there are also 3 options:

Voting closes end of Friday, 12 December 2008.

If you wish to propose anything significantly different from the above design, send me an image file, and I’ll have a run-off of all images received against the winner of the above poll.

There’s more real democracy and transparency on this blog than most of us will experience in our lifetimes.

    Excellent, Jiv!

The designs look the same to me, so I take it this is a vote for the “tag line”? Can we suggest others?

    “FIOFAFI: football … old school”
    “FIOFAFI: football for the aged”
    “FIOFAFI: cure your mid-life crisis”

    Anyone else have suggestions?

PS drop the “http://www.” and that extra “/” at the end to create more real estate space.

    FIOFAFI: cure your mid-life crisis

When does mid-life begin? Our median age is currently 35!

  3. Sun 7 December 2008 at 1:18 pm

    well, …

re. “median age is 35”: a literal mid-life is only known / knowable after we our lives are completed, so it obviously has a less literal emphasis.

    well, …

“Football Into Our Forties & Fifties, Indefatigably”

    FIOFAFI: football for the aged

    There’s always active ageing instead.

Have you Fiofafied TODAY sounds like If you had Sex today ……

    What’s wrong with that?

    How about Just FIOFAFI

I thought about that as one of the options, but was wondering if it was too Nike-esque.

I’ll add it as one of the options.

as for colours.. I think White on red is better than black on red. So i think, White on red, White on Black.. And Black on white. More contrast. And Rajiv, if you are going to print about 40 pieces and its only one colour, try the silk-screen option. It can be cheaper and definitely will last longer than those iron-on stickers which will cost you 10bucks no matter the quantity. And with silk screening, you only get the template once and the next bulk you print can only be cheaper.

As for the copy, I think the name and website should appear as one. Fiofafi.com. It acts as a site driver. No need for extra lines such as please visit blah blah blah. More concise. And we need to educate people on what FIOFAFI is about anyway, so the site is important. So the most concise way is to have a site driver as a name. Fiofafi.com. No need for http://www.fio…. too long and doesn’t look sophisticated. people are techno savvy enough to understand fiofafi.com.

    as for copy suggestions….

    1. Be A Playa. fiofafi.com (strong ‘call to action’.)
    2. Never too Old To Score. fiofafi.com
    3. Aim. Shoot. Dribble. Don’t forget to flush. Fiofafi.com (my personal favourite! HAHAH I would wear this one to zoukOut!)

  9. Mon 8 December 2008 at 12:27 am

    “never too old to score.
    fiofafi.com”

    GENIUS! Nice one, Edardy.

    Since we’r going to have 2 different colours, why not the following ;

For white :Never too Old To Score.fiofafi.com”

For red :FIOFAFI: cure your mid-life crisis
    (I definitely qualify for this….)

  11. rajiv
    Mon 8 December 2008 at 8:34 am

    … try the silk-screen option.

Yup, the T-shirts will be screen printed.

I think White on red is better than black on red.

Ok, white on red and black and black on white then. We should be able to do that with one screen. So no more excuses for not having a black T-shirt either.

    “never too old to score.
    fiofafi.com”

    GENIUS! Nice one, Edardy.

    and

For red :FIOFAFI: cure your mid-life crisis
    (I definitely qualify for this….)

Ok, I’ll add both options to the poll. I’ve re-set the votes to 0, so those of you who already voted, please vote again.

If we go with 2 sets of wording, we’ll need at least 10 orders for each, as we’ll need two separate screens.

If I’m not mistaken, you can customize t-shirts at Nike.com too. Price could be high but at least it has the latest sweat technology.

  13. rajiv
    Mon 8 December 2008 at 5:34 pm

I’m trying to keep the first round of T-shirts as cheap as possible.

I suppose once the design is finalized, anyone could go to Nike.com and have it printed on a T-shirt with the latest sweat technology? I’d be fine with that.

    Hi Rajiv

If Do you Fiofafi and Fiofafi.com will to have the highest vote , i suggest we can summarize this and save the cost on the letterings by just having it

Do You Fiofafi.com ? Message is clear enough . And the lesser words we have them on the Shirt , the nicer it will look and we might even have the freedom of having them in bigger words. Just a suggestion .

  15. rajiv
    Tue 9 December 2008 at 10:01 am

save the cost on the letterings ….

As it’s screen printing, there’s no addition cost in more lettering, but I suppose your main concern is “FIOFAFI” being repeated.

I’ll put up a final version once the wording is settled.

Jiv will these be breathable T-shirts as in Nike Dri-fit or equivalent or just normal cotton T-shirt? The cotton ones may be uncomfortable for running around for an hour

  17. rajiv
    Tue 9 December 2008 at 10:15 am

The cotton ones may be uncomfortable for running around for an hour

    It’s cotton.

You can continue to wear your usual red, white or black jerseys to play – the FIOFAFI T-shirt is not meant to be compulsory. It’s meant more for casual use, but if you don’t have the right colour for any particular session, you can use a FIOFAFI T-shirt – they’ll be cheap.

If you’d like to get a Nike Dri-fit, and would still like the FIOFAFI design on it, Raj says that you can get them custom made at Nike.com (see comments 12 and 13 above).

We print loads of t-shirts at my work and we have recently done some in dry-fit material. I can get some costs for you if you want to compare. Happy to set up the artwork as well if you need it.

A dri-fit top reversible in 2 colors (with slogan on one side) may be the best option. No need to pre-determine line-ups and colors ever again…you can even swop teams midway without confusion…

  23. rajiv
    Tue 9 December 2008 at 2:33 pm

If it’s reversible, we could stick with black and red.

Sorry Bret, your comment got held in the spam filter until I approved it a short while ago.

“FIOFAFI Till I Die” is fairly close to “FIOFAFI Till You Drop”, which isn’t garnering too many votes … so I’ve replaced the latter with the former in the poll.

“Never Too Old To Score” with 48% of the vote, takes it from “Do You FIOFAFI?”, with 33%.

FIOFAFI.com. is the preferred option for the web address.

Andy N, and word on reversible dry-fit T-shirts?

  30. rajiv
    Mon 15 December 2008 at 4:44 pm

One step at a time Franco, but we’ll get there.

Boris, I started with T-shirts in mind, but the idea has evolved a bit since then.

The latest proposal is reversible, dry-fit T-shirts.

  34. Boris
