Weekend Warrior Syndrome

“Weekend warrior syndrome” are “the various problems that may arise when someone who participates in highly physical activity for a few hours on the weekend works a sedentary or less physical job for 40+ hours a week”.

“Due to the drastic change in physical stress on the body, workweek to weekend, warriors often experience soft tissue injuries (sprains and strains) or worse”.

In our case, since the switch from Sunday mornings to Monday nights, perhaps it should be called “Monday night warrior syndrome!

The American College of Sports Medicine and American Heart Association recommend that
“all healthy adults ages 18 to 65 years need moderate-intensity aerobic physical activity for at least 30 minutes on five days each week or vigorous-intensity aerobic physical activity for at least 20 minutes on three days each week”.

So to everyone (especially the Bukit Timah campus regulars who prefer playing for two hours just once a week), you’re much better off playing one hour twice a week than two hours once a week!
