When I asked Tom about his player profile, he replied

In a way, he’s right – how does he ask himself questions, then edit his answers?
What would you like to know about the man who calls himself redseason, apart what you find on Facebook? And that before he introduced his colleague, Yaseen, there was his imaginary friend, Mot, and his imaginary 19 year-old blonde secretary, Natasha.
And that he is sometimes such a girl. (No, nothing to do with dressing up as Natasha.)
The man who turns session reports into classic mini-novelettes. And who initiated the FIOFAFI stats and got the ball rolling.

Q1: Which team do you support? United, since the Cup Final in ’79. I still have nightmares screaming “Stay on the line, stay on the line” to Gary Bailey as Brady’s cross floats over him.
Q3: During the FA Cup Final of 1981, which team did you support (Man City or Spurs)? I rooted for the underdogs citeh.
Q4: Do you still believe that the UEFA Cup is a more difficult trophy to win than the European Cup? Not now. But in the ’80s, when both tournaments were straight knock-out competitions, I thought the UEFA was harder to win in part because of the strength of the 2nd-4th placed teams from each league in the competition.
Q5: What do you think how important is a high IQ in football/soccer and how to measure an avarage level?: It depends. First of all, I don’t think IQ is a valid form of “intelligence testing”. Second, I have reservations about such measurement techniques and what they are used for.

Q7: What do you would say about your IQ compare to your football skills and how is it reflected? Well, as you know, I went to a crappy school, so I am quite dim. And I don’t have a PhD, either.
Q8: Which team do you support in the Singapore league? I have a preference for Woodlands Wellington, simply because I associate V Sundramoorthy with them. Dunno why. He was some player. YouTube. I think I was at the Stadium for this one.
Q9: Why is noh alam shah your favourite local striker? ’cause we were in the same gangs when we were young.
Q10: When will singapore reach the world cup finals… Probably sooner than we think. First, FIFA will probably expand the competition to 72 teams (up from 16 teams in 1978). Second, Gahmen will revive its 2010 vision.

Q12: What are your thoughts when Manchester United loss to the Thieving Scousers? I am always distraught after a Giant killing.
Q13: Will you someday be a Thieving Scouse when you get tired of Manchester United? Unlikely, as I have a deep abhorrence to killing Italians.

I’m surprised that no scandalous or embarrassing questions have been asked so far 🙂 .
Q14: Why don’t you play 11-a-side? Two and a half reasons. Don’t have a team, am fat & unfit and there’s more involvement in 5-a-side games.
Q15: Are you still playing on Sunday evenings? Nope, lots to do at home.
Q16: Would your Sunday guys like a one-off game against Franco’s colleagues on a Sunday evening? They are on their tour of Malaysia, so the answer is “Nope”.

My Favourite MAn U game was when they lost 2-1 to liverpool 🙂 . Awesome match and will love to watch another repeat of that .

I don’t think Tom has been around much this week.
I’ll keep my favourite United games to the ones where I’ve experienced it at the ground. That limits the choices, but maintains the “I was there!” feel. In no particular order:
(1) My first United game. 21st November 1987. United away at Wimbledon (Plough Lane) in the old Division 1. United lost 1-2. If I remember correctly, United lost only 2 games that entire season – and I was there for half the defeats. Those were good days when Ferguson believed he had inherited a squad who could challenge for the title so this meant we fielded sides containing Jesper Olsen, Gary Walsh, Viv Anderson et al. Football back then meant no covered stands, standing terraces, racist chanting (by United fans), drunken fights on the trains, policemen instead of “stewards” etc etc.
(2) This one lives in the memory for some reason. 10th May 1995, at home to Southampton, the penultimate game of the season. United were woeful that evening, and won 2-1 thanks to a dubious penalty awarded for a tug on Andrew Cole. United had lost Cantona and were without Kan-Kan and the hamstrung Giggs. It was also the end of Ferguson’s first great team, the one that won the Double in ’94: thereafter Ince, Hughes, Kanchelskis were shipped out and the Class of ’92 were eased into the first team.
(3) This probably the easiest: I’ll pick a period and two games that bookmarked an amazing 5 days – 22nd May vs the Bar-Codes and 26th May vs Bayern Munich. (It’s easy to remember my wedding anniversary … heh heh). No need to say much about these.

Bad players fall into 2 broad categories: one set that includes reasonable players who just fail to “get it up” at United – players like Nani – while the other set that simply includes very bad players (like Bellion).
Blatter is full of shit.
Some of the flamboyant players i remember would have to be Karel Poborsky and Gary Palister. I remember Poborsky as a skilful player. Gary to be in the same mould as Ferdinand. Keane will definetly make my cut for starting 11. Another interesting player would have to be Henrik Larsson. He is my all time favourite player and i was estatic when he came for a short stint. For the record, today is Larsson’ birthday.
Poborsky would go into my worst XI.
As for Keane, well, yes, he should be in the Genius XI; it’s just that Scholes and Whiteside are more of “cult figures”. Apart from their goals, e.g. vs Everton in ’85, Norm brings in a bit of naughtiness.
It also helps that Scholes and Whiteside didn’t have a go at the fans.
