Official FIOFAFI Joker

Sun 22 February 2009 Leave a comment Go to comments

I’m putting the position of FIOFAFI’s official joker to a vote.

Since it’s all in fun, I’ll decide on the nominees.

First nominee is Tom – always ready with a “witty” comment.  Enough said.

The next nominee is Mark L.  Anyone who starts or ends virtually every comment with “Hee Hee Hee”, “Hee Hee” or “HEHEHE”, “Ha Ha” or “Ha Ha Ha”, or “KEKEKEKEKE” or “KEKEKKEE”, or has a “KEKEKEKEK” , “KeKeKe” or “Heh heh heh” in the middle of a comment, or a combination of any two, in addition to smileys, has to be in the reckoning.

And then there are the various names he uses – the mini-novelette inspired “Manuel” and its variation “MaNual”, and the more recent “Manuel @ STIR SH*T.COM”.  Mark is also commendable for being the biggest fan of our session reports (after Boris).  And a fan of Nick’s Culture Shock.

And with sufficient sense of humour to call his beloved Liverpool FC “LiverPoot” (whatever that might mean), or even “Loser Pool”!  And who somewhat strangely misses the “old Tom”.  (Mark, which one? The one who’s a girl?)

The nominations would not be complete without the man behind “Jokes To Share”, which led to the “Humour” sub-page – Rajseran.  As he put it

Hi Everyone

Please share your Jokes …. Those who are stressed , are always welcome to visit … for a little Laugh :) and i shall start first.

Rajseran would be a nominee on the strength of the above even without his several references to “soap”, alternative causes for lower body injuries, pulling down shorts and keeping his hands off Franco, but which serve to strengthen the case in his favour.

I’ve included Yaseen for the diversity of humorous contributions to the blog – from his “shorts” exchanges with Rajseran, his concern for Boris, Franco, Nick and local football, and his love for ranked games (though not necessarily of the ranking system?), the “Bukit Timah kakis” and a “good tongue in cheek”. And being able to laugh through his “braking” problems.

Yaseen has contributed much to the blog with his own brand of witticisms, and shouldn’t be seen as merely being Tom’s sidekick or fan just because they work together.

Being “cute” (allegedly), yet “tough bodied”, does his chances no harm.

So far, we have two Manchester United fans and two Liverpool fans.

No chance of breaking this particular tie with our final nominee – Franco.   Funny guy.  What more can anyone say?

Raj (Santi) might have been in contention, except that he hasn’t played at all so far this year.  We can blame Tom’s anti-hero Paul Masefield for that.  Melvin has provided some “good tongue in cheek” of late, and should be in the running if we do this again next year.

More interestingly, the nominees reflect the diverse ethnicities of our participants.

The poll will close at midnight on 31 March 2009.

Demon Dog Tom’s got my vote – the dark humour in the reports and comments is hilarious.
Plus he’s got the blonde secretary, eh?

Although Tom is currently in the lead, I think the real contest comes down to between Rajseran and Yaseen.

Franco is also in the lead but i dont remember seeing him ever smiling . Boris would have peed in his pants more then laughing when playing against Franco .

Question is When and what did Franco Joke abt ??

He was just a funny guy, in a Jekyll and Hyde sort of way. If you can’t laugh at that, what can you laugh at?

C’mon, Boris laughed that time Franco “shoulder charged” him off the ball:

All in all a good game without any incidents except for me eyeballing Franco’s elbow. 🙂

And if you look over Franco’s comments, they are always full of smileys, like this one and this one, and this one. I could list out a lot more if I had the time. Ok, he didn’t do his smileys properly, but you can’t hold that against him. And he was always appreciative of your jokes.

He has a different view of things, perhaps influenced by being oppressed or worse by the Stasi in the former East Germany.

Franco was nominated to represent minority interests – neither a Man Utd or Liverpool fan.

I really thought you and Yaseen would run away with the vote, and I’m really surprised Franco is now level with Tom. You’ll have to ask those who voted for him. Perhaps it’s the anti-Man Utd/Liverpool voters.

Heath Ledger’s the ultimate Joker. But since he does not FIOFAFI my post-humorous vote goes to Franco.

Like Heath, you probably think he’s just another faggot actor until he’s gone. Then you’ll miss him and wish he was back….. but only if he behaves himself.

Not only that, he writes funny, has amazing tantrums and, like the proverbial Joker in the pack, can change from a sweetie to Neo-N..i mean fascist bully in an instant.

PS: I will be personally outraged if Tom wins this one. A cunning wordsmith yes, but a Joker? Surely not!

Melvin, didn’t you mean to say cunning “linguist” instead of “wordsmith”?

You twisting my tongue again, Jiv. Not more St Pat’s humour eh??… we shouldn’t even go there, not even for old time’s sake.

The fact is that we are all Jokers in our own ways .

Example seeing TOM doing the Shammi Kapoor dance the last time we played was a Joke ,

Franco did a body Push and saw Boris Flying was also a Joke

Benjamin played the last 11 aside game and ran all the way to the Goal post asking for ball , forgetting that there was a offside rule for 11 aside ( still thinking that he was playing Futsol ) was also a joke

Yaseen playing Soccer ( initially i thought was a joke too )

You see we are all jokers 😉

You rightly point out Tom wasn’t credited for his performance as Shammi Kapoor (for which he won the session poll by an unprecedented landslide).

I thought of it when I was drafting the post, but as I wasn’t sure how Tom would feel about the nomination, I kept his nomination as short as possible. Likewise for Franco.

I knew you, Yaseen and Mark would enjoy it, which is why you each have longer write ups. I was right – of the five nominees, only the three of you have commented. And the three of you do provide a lot of material for your nominations on the blog.

On the other hand, Tom and Franco are tied for the lead in the poll, so I must have been right to nominate them.

Most of Tom’s other “achievements” are in any event listed in the post entitled “Meet Tom (Stuff You Won’t Find On Facebook)”, which is linked to his name in the post above.

Looking at the “Humour” page, all the jokes are from Rajseran and Yaseen. Is it any wonder they’re in the running for FIOFAFI “Joker” (in its lighter sense).

Tom’s dark humour and Franco’s “crazy” humour take us in a different direction – towards the insane darkness of “The Joker” in the Batman series.

Accordingly, I see an inconsistency when Melvin says:

Heath Ledger’s the ultimate Joker. But since he does not FIOFAFI my post-humorous vote goes to Franco.

    ….

PS: I will be personally outraged if Tom wins this one. A cunning wordsmith yes, but a Joker? Surely not!

The voting reflects the cultural ambiguity in the term “Joker”. Even in a pack of cards:

The Joker is the only card remaining from the Tarot trumps. He corresponds to The Fool in the Tarot deck and has some of the same meanings in the regular deck of playing cards. His number is zero and he is truly a “wild card.” When the Joker appears in a reading, it means that something unexpected and uncontrolled can occur. If there are two Jokers with your deck of cards, and you choose to use the Joker in your readings, you need to add only one.

The voting so far is perhaps a reflection of how the term “Joker” is interpreted differently.

In that sense, the poll is more about those who vote, than the nominees.

Franco is in the running to win the Joker Hat 🙂 . I am already laughing now , NOW THAT IS A JOKE TOO 🙂

It’s those who vote – they seem to be giving the term it’s darker meaning – after all, when I added the above comment, Tom and Franco were in the lead with 3 votes each, while you and Yaseen had 2 votes each.

After I’ve mentioned the Joker in a pack of cards, Franco has gone into the lead. Perhaps whoever voted after picked up on “something unexpected and uncontrolled can occur”.

That’s how I used to feel whenever Franco played. Before he started to mellow sometime last year, that’s how it sometimes was as well when Tom played.

Tom has been struggling with his nasty side for some time now. Other than the occasional relapse, he’s been fairly successful. A bit like watching Revenge Of The Sith. The battle against the inner demons sometimes takes time.

Of course, the demons might win. Tom as Darth Vader?

The poll is actually more complex than it appears. First, the voter has to decide (whether consciously or subconsciously) what meaning to give the term “Joker”. Then the voter has to decide who is the best fit, given that meaning.

Rajseran, shall we call you “Ran” for short, or “Der (short for Rajinder), so as to distinguish you from the other Rajs. I’m usually referred to as “Jiv” for short, and the remaining Raj is now “Santi”, so no one gets to use “Raj”. 🙂

If you’ve taken the Raj out of Rajseran, shouldn’t he be Sir Ran? (…as in the one who has climbed Mt Everest with a double heart bypass)

          • rajseran
            Mon 2 March 2009 at 1:07 pm

Sir Ran with Double Bypass and getting votes for Joker , they both dont match .

I think RAJSERAN = If there are too many RAJ , then just use SERAN will be ok .

The above poll has not been abandoned, it’s been superseded by the “Comic” and “Anakin” polls.
