Questionnaire

Dear FioFAFIers,

I would like to solicit your views with regard to the following issues:

Sunday Session:

Would you be interested in joining a number of former St. Pats students (including myself) in a regular Sunday game at East Coast?

They normally play between 6 pm to 7 pm, but face the perennial problem of “player shortage”, and by that I don’t mean height disadvantaged footballers.Their preference is to play 5-a-side and it is usually a case of lacking 2-3 players to make the games even. They choose not to play a physical game, but place a greater emphasis on the more beautiful side of the game.

Kindly indicate in the comments your interest.

Women and Football:

Recently it came to my notice that a member of the FAFI fraternity, who shall remain anonymous, chose to collect his girlfriend from the airport instead of attending a FAFI-sanctioned game. I ask you: is this right? Would you rather score points with your partner instead of scoring a proper goal? What would you do if you were in Sushil’s position?

I hope Rajiv doesn’t mind this post!

    Other football

Tom, there is a lot of other football played. Among other things, I know:

    • Sushil and Rajesh play regularly over the weekends, including with a mixed group at Choa Chu Kang / Bukit Panjang.

    • Look Liew organizes a regular Thursday night session for some of his Deutsche Bank colleagues from 8 to 9 or 10 pm at Sports Planet @ East Coast.

    • Melvin plays regularly on Friday nights at the pitch at Royal Sporting House on Macpherson Road, a venue I once considered for us, but which at that time, was not available on a suitable day.

Also, several of our participants, such as Ronak, regularly play 11-a-side games at the weekend.

Anyone who plays with another group but are often a few players short are welcome to invite any of our participants to join them. Likewise, I’d invite anyone who plays with another group to join us from time to time.

FIOFAFI is meant to be inclusive and sustainable, and the pooling effect benefits everyone.

We had considered Sunday nights at East Coast as early in January 2008, but interest at that time had been virtually non-existent.

However, there is no harm in asking again, especially since the group is far larger now.

    Playing voluntarily

All aspects of FIOFAFI, including writing for the blog, is entirely voluntary, and FIOFAFI is structured to accommodate individual schedules, including other commitments that we each have, whether work, family, social or personal.

No one is under any pressure to play on any particular day or any particular session, or to play at all. With a sufficiently big pool of participants, there should always be enough people to make up two sides for each session. If there are regularly not enough players, then we’ll cut down the number of sessions. If there are regularly too many players, we’ll increase the number of sessions – simple and flexible.

I believe Sushil plays up to 4 or 5 times a week, more than anyone else.

There are quite a few others who have tried us out once or twice and not returned thereafter, or who have been very irregular over a prolonged period. If they do not see sufficient benefit in playing regularly with us – improving and maintaining health and fitness through an enjoyable sporting activity – that is their choice.

Or perhaps they play elsewhere or with some other group – again, their choice.

All I ask is that having confirmed for a session, there is a degree of commitment to turn up on time and play.

I would not mind Sunday at East Coast – works perfectly for me.

Bret, I might join you and “get some of that” “beautiful” Sunday night delicacy later in the month.

Tom, there are two ways you can make your Sunday evening sessions at East Coast available on the blog – either make all 10 places available on the blog (in which case, it comes under the “Schedule” category, and confirmations by your regulars would also be through the blog) or, if you only make 2 or 3 places available on the blog, it comes under “Other Football”.

If it comes under “Schedule”, a session report or summary is the quid pro quo.

If it comes under “Other Football”, a session report or summary is strongly encouraged.

Look Liew, the same consideration applies to your Thursday night session at East Coast.

I might try to play with Melvin’s Friday night session at Macpherson sometime later this month, and let everyone know how that goes.

Tom, are you still playing on Sunday nights?

Would your guys like a one-off game against Franco’s colleagues on a Sunday evening?
