Thursday Night At The Cage: 3 September 2009

With numbers being in issue, I was minded not to have a session summary, but that wouldn’t be fair to those who played, so here goes.

The revised line ups were as follows:

• Reds: Gilbert, Sivaraj, John J, Desmond
• Blacks: Neil M, Ian, Pat, player from the Cage.

    Revised line ups:

Reds: Sivaraj, Ian, Desmond, John J
Blacks: Gilbert, Patrick, Neil, little guy from the Cage

I know this doesn’t happen very often but I was a bit disappointed at the poor showing this evening. There were 2 sessions last Thursday but we only managed 7 players tonight; talk about the market crashing. Nevertheless, we had a good technical game with lots of possession by both sides and fantastic passing and shooting. Even though we played off the side walls, it wasn’t particularly tiring as the pace of the game was controlled. For the record, Blacks won by a difference of 4 goals.

On another note, I felt it was unfair for those who turned up to fork out more money to play a somewhat subdued game not unlike a practice session. Perhaps, those who sign up but failed to show up be penalised in one way or another. There needs to be a level of committment when one signs up and to only withdraw at the last moment (due to whatever reason) is unfair to the mates who did show up to share the love of the game. And most times, Rajiv (bless his soul) was able to scramble and find someone to fill in, unfortunately not time time round. I call out to everyone to please cooperate and make this work so that we can all have our weekly fix of great football!

      Yesterday was very unfortunate.

3 places becoming available after line ups were finalised was unusual enough.

I usually would either be able to get more players (because I ended up with 3 places to fill fairly late in the day, I didn’t go through everyone who might play on Thursday at The Cage), or cancel the session, but as I was out most of the evening, it was hard to manage.

When I got John, I figured the session could go ahead 4 v 4 (which is unusual enough), but the last withdrawal came up just before the session, too late for me to do anything, even cancel, again very unusual.

Several unusual occurrences in connection with the numbers for last night. Unlikely to arise again.

I think most participants understand putting your name down carries a high degree of commitment. Late withdrawals have actually been fairly uncommon.

Ideally, those who withdraw late should still pay their share. However, collection is tricky. I’ll give it some thought and come back to it later in the year.

On the other hand, it is unfair to those who turn up and have to pay more. If we’re just one or two short, it is just $1 or $2 more, but on this occasion, because we were three short, I assume it was $4 more?

For last night’s session, I’ll reimburse those who played $2 each out of the very small surpluses that arise from time to time ($4 surplus from the odd occasions I play 6-a-side sessions at Sports Planet or at Turf City) next time I see them.

At least it was a decent game. I hope those who played last night preferred playing to having the session cancelled.

    Hi rajiv,

To Rajiv & all players that played @The Cage last night.
Sorry & would like to apologize for not showing up the game last night due to work commitment.
I will still pay my share for the game, to be fair to all the players that had showed up last night.
Sorry for all the inconvenience caused.

    Rajiv,

I have 3/4 players who are interested in playing football mid week and over the weekend.

Can you tell me if you can help? and what days are best with times etc.
