More World Cup qualifiers were played over the weekend. Besides the host, South Africa, the following 18 countries have qualified so far (in chronological order):

  • Australia
  • Japan
  • Korea Republic
  • Netherlands
  • Korea DPR
  • Brazil
  • Ghana
  • England
  • Spain
  • Paraguay
  • Côte d’Ivoire
  • Germany
  • Denmark
  • Serbia
  • Italy
  • Chile
  • Mexico
  • United States

The remaining 13 places will be filled from of the following:

  • 3 more from Africa:  Cameroon or Gabon, Tunisia or Nigeria, Algeria or Egypt.
  • 6 more from Europe:  Remaining group winners (Switzerland or Greece, Slovakia or Slovenia) and 4 from play-offs between the best 8 runners up (Portugal, Sweden or Hungary, Switzerland, Greece, Israel or Latvia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Czech Republic or Northern Ireland, Russia, Bosnia Herzegovina, Ukraine or Croatia, France and Republic of Ireland.   Norway could displace the Group A runner up, but very unlikely.
  • 1 more fom CONCACAF:  Costa Rica or Honduras.  The other team will play off against the 5th place team from South America.
  • 1 more from South America:  Argentina, Uruguay or Ecuador, 1 other from Argentina, Uruguay, Ecuador and Venezuela into play-offs.
  • 2 more from inter-continental play-offs:  4th in CONCACAF against 5th from South America, Bahrain (5th in Asia) against New Zealand (winners in Oceania).

    The European groups were completed last night. Switzerland and Slovakia have qualified. The 8 countries into the play-offs are: Russia, Greece, Ukraine, France, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Portugal and Republic of Ireland. The countries are seeded for the draw for the play-offs, to take place next Monday.

    The South American and CONCACAF groups were also completed last night. Argentina and Honduras have qualified, with Uruguay and Costa Rica to play off.
