OPSAGE: 16 August 2009

Other projects, sports, activities, games and events to participate in, watch or attend.

We’ve had impromptu mini-tournaments when the number of players for a session have exceeded 10 and reached 16 to 20, and a second pitch is available at the same venue. We’ve had an impromptu second session when a second pitch is only available at a different venue.  We could have another one on Monday night, especially if enough players are prepared to switch between venues.

On Thursday, we had the first ever impromptu representative game.

If there are enough players interested in playing on a Friday night, I’ve suggested an impromptu Friday night session.

Likewise, as there is some interest in a session from 10 to 11 pm on a weeknight, it could come about through an impromptu session if there are sufficient players.

There is something to be said for spontaneity.

    S. League games so far this week:

    • Monday night in Brunei: DPMM 3 Super Reds 2
    • Monday night at Jalan Besar Stadium: Young Lions 0 SAFFC 5
    • Last night at Toa Payoh Stadium: Balestier Khalsa 0 Tampines Rovers 1

SAFFC remain 11 points clear at the top. It is becoming increasingly a one-horse race.

    The remaining fixtures this week:

    • Tonight at Hougang Stadium: Sengkang Punggol v Geylang United
    • Tomorrow night at Jurong West Stadium: Gombak United v Albirex Niigata
    • Friday night at Jalan Besar Stadium: SAFFC v Home United
    • Saturday night at Bedok Stadium: Geylang United v DPMM
    • Saturday night at Woodlands Wellington Stadium: Woodlands Wellington v Young Lions

      Results:

      • Wednesday night at Hougang Stadium: Sengkang Punggol 0 Geylang United 3
      • Thursday night at Jurong West Stadium: Gombak United 1 Albirex Niigata 1
      • Friday night at Jalan Besar Stadium: SAFFC 0 Home United 2
      • Last night at Bedok Stadium: Geylang United 4 DPMM 3
      • Last night at Woodlands Wellington Stadium: Woodlands Wellington 0 Young Lions 0

I should have gone to watch the game last night at Bedok Stadium. I watched the game between Geylang United and DPMM earlier in the season, which ended goalless.

Two wins this week sees Geylang United move within 7 points of second-placed Tampines Rovers, who are 11 points behind leaders SAFFC. Current table here.

SAFFC’s loss at home to Home United gives a ray of hope to the chasing pack, with a quarter of the season to go.
