The First “F” Is For “Fun”

Earlier, I covered what the middle “IOFAF” and the last “I” stand for.  As for  the first “F”, it stands for “Fun”.

Participation and sustainability keep FIOFAFI going.  However, participation is more likely to be sustained if it’s fun.

The first “F” started of as “Football”, but it doesn’t have to be all about football or futsal.  It has been more than just about football for some time now.  FIOFAFI can be about any sport or activity that our participants are interested in.

“Fitness” is fine and good, and many of us play to keep fit, but after the initial buzz, keeping fit alone may not be sufficient motivation for participants to keep coming back week after week or even month after month.

It’s fun first, not necessarily fitness first.  And “fun” is entirely consistent with FIOFAFI’s core values.  Keeping it fun works as a better incentive for keeping fit.

In any event, it is advisable not to rely exclusively or primarily on football or futsal to keep fit.

Currently, “OPSAGE” provides an opportunity to organize other activity or sport through the blog.

Apart from futsal, football, sports or other activity organized through the blog, there’s no reason why the blog itself can’t be fun.

Tom had his “Meet The Player, Meet The Man”, while Rajseran had his “Jokes” page, to which Yaseen contributed significantly.

There’s no reason why stuff on the blog can’t be frivolous (another “F” word), such as “Inventing A Band And Album Cover”, “Wordle”, or “Football Is A Funny Game”.  Or stuff that requires some amount of thinking, such as the football quiz I received from Reza, and the “Predictor”.   Or videos, such as Remi Gaillard or how to wall flip.

Apart from being used to assess preferences, polls can be just for fun.  A list of concluded polls can be found hereRajseran is FIOFAFI’s current “Last Comic Standing”.

To enhance the “Fun” aspect of the blog, the “Random Chat” page has been replaced with a “Fun” page.

A “Discussion” page was set up on 5 August 2008 to allow for more general discussion about other things that did not relate to specific posts, renamed “Chat in December 2008, and renamed “Random Chat” in February 2009.  It has out-lived its purpose.

There will be a weekly “Eye-Catcher” post every Saturday morning.

If you come across anything interesting, amusing or entertaining on the internet about football, sport, games or other activity, add a link or a summary as a comment to the latest “Eye-Catcher” post.  The best ones (based on the response of other participants) will be added to the “Fun” page.

A “Fun” category has also been added.  There’s no harm in making the most of a blog.

It’s all just for fun.  A bit of facetiousness even (another “F” word).  After all, we’re never too old to scorn. 🙂

Just for fun, try different first words starting with “F”, and an equivalent slogan.  For example, “F-ing Into Our Forties & Fifties, Indefatigably” – “Never Too Old To Spawn”.

[…] Polls have also been used to canvass views on various matters, or entirely for fun. A list of concluded polls between 1 February 2009 and 24 April 2009 can be found here. […]

Even if it’s just social football with a competitive edge, our sessions can sometimes get heated, but don’t forget, it’s for fun.

And don’t forget our core values.
