Session Previews: 19 To 21 May 2009

Once the places for each session are finalized, the names of those confirmed will either be added as a comment below, or can be ascertained from the Routine Schedule page.

Any two regulars can then contact each other over the telephone and take turns to pick players.

Either of the two can then put up the line ups decided by the selection method as a comment below on behalf of both of them.

If no line ups are put up, I’ll use the default method to determine the line ups and put them up between 4 and 5 pm on the day of the session.

Everyone is then free to discuss the line ups as comments below.

The 10 for tonight are: Andy N, Mark N, Philipp, Edardy, Con, Lukas, Melvin, Julius, Clemens, Gilbert

As there are a couple of new players and a couple more who have played less than 5 times, it’s a 2-pointer.

We didn’t get a pitch tonight.

I had called The Cage on Tuesday morning to cancel my booking for last night and to confirm my booking for tonight. I usually e-mail one of the managers for any cancellation, but on this occasion, I did it over the phone. I also confirmed Tuesday night’s booking. I got the member of staff to repeat back to me what I had said, and he repeated it correctly. I am very careful about these things.

However, he apparently passed the message on to his manager wrongly, to say that tonight’s booking was cancelled, so they had me down as a “no show” for yesterday, and without a booking for tonight.

At my insistence, The Cage asked the lot before us who had extended to take our hour to leave the pitch, but they refused. I understand they were girls, so I suppose everyone just gave in to them.

I am very disturbed by what happened as:

      • I have never been a “no show” at The Cage, or at any other venue for that matter, without calling them to let them know, so they should have known something was wrong after last night. They did not call me to check with me.

      • The member of staff repeated my cancellation to me correctly, but still passed it on wrongly to the manager. I told The Cage management yesterday that any employee that incompetent should be sacked immediately.

I will stick with e-mails in future.

My apologies to everyone who went down to The Cage tonight but didn’t get a game.

I will keep you updated on The Cage’s response.

If any of the 10 of you can make it on Tuesday at The Cage, the game will be free for you. If you can’t make it, or the session fills up before then, I will give you $8 the next time I see you after Tuesday.

        Compliments of The Cage.

          • Alan, Chris and John J got their free game on Tuesday.

          • Azmi and Shankar got their free game on Wednesday.

          • Joel and Sushil got their free game last night.

Murray declined his on Wednesday. I passed $8 to Sushil to pass on to Rajseran on Monday. Only James left.

Human errors DO happen so its important that things are done in a way where there’s no room for error.. Im not blaming you Jiv. You are doing a fantastic thing for football lovers. Words exchanged on the phone can never be taken as a confirmation. My point is the staff made an error. To be sacked for an error is a bit on e harsh side. What if its his main source of income? Instead asked e cage management to educate n equip their staffs for the future

I agree it was a bit harsh. Personally, I was disappointed but there will always be other games to look forward to. I hope there’s a game this sat to make up for yesterday’s mix up. But all is not lost though, those who stayed on got to play a friendly with the girls. I think they have little to complain.

    Hi there guys,

All things said and done, I guess the most positive aspect of this episode is that the levels of interest in indoor 5-a side soccer in Singapore is increasing and we hare feeling the effects of it. Not so long ago, I remember that getting a slot to play would not have been an issue but with interest picking up, a situation like this was like an accident waiting to happen.

Rajiv, I personally really appreciate the huge amounts of efforts that you put in so that FIOFAF chugs along as smoothly as it does. A grateful thank you for all that you are doing. I want to reemphasize that what happened yesterday was not any fault of yours and it is not a blemish on your record. I would like to urge you to reconsider about the staff that made the mistake. I think that he is unlikely to repeat this and I am sure that he will be more careful in the future, given that he has seen the repercussions of what he has done.

Rajiv, I agree they made a mistake but dont think anyone should get sacked as a result. Perhaps they can give us a free game or something.

Either way the blog is running amazingly well and the fact that this is the first time happening is a fine testament to your efforts to keep this process as smooth as possible.

    Thanks
    Sushil George

Agreed. Apart from the occasional claims of uneven sides (mostly cases of sour grapes), the system has worked really well. The blog has ensured that the exact number of players turn up with the right colours and on time for the vast majority of sessions – quite an amazing feat for a group which rarely interacts outside of the futsal context.

This incident, while frustrating for those who were supposed to play yesterday, should not be overblown. Do press for some concession as Sushil suggested, but I don’t think we should be pressing for the poor sod to be sacked.

Occasionally there were instants when there were uneven side . You might experience when you play often .

Did you use the opportunity to do a bit of “marketing” – tell them about FIOFAFI and the possibility of mixed sessions if we have sufficient female players?

    • Whites: Lukas, Yuchi, Lin Kang, Azmi, Anthony, Timmy
    • Blacks: Sushil, Rajiv, Edardy, Rizal, Ron, Mean Luck

As there are several new players, and a couple more who haven’t played for a couple of weeks, it’s a 2-pointer.

Don’t worry about The Cage “employee”. I was told on Thursday night itself that it was an “intern”. I doubt they’ll “sack” him, and even if they did, he’ll just go intern somewhere else.
