Project FAFI: Game On 18 May 2009

As this is the first of the separate posts scheduling the Monday night game at Turf City, I’ve gone ahead and put it up.

The booking for next Monday, 18 May 2009, 9 to 10 pm, at Turf City, is in Tom’s name.

Add your name below if you’d like to play.  Whether there are enough players for the game to go on, line ups and colours will be left to the regulars to decide.  As the booking is in Tom’s name, I suppose he’ll have the final say.

To find this post even as it moves down the list of recent posts on the left, you can go to the “OPSAGE” page and follow the link from there.

Like I said, if numbers look short over the weekend, and you’re keen for the game to go on, you could always try to get more players by asking your friends, or SMSing other participants who you know can play Monday nights at Turf City.  The telephone list was circulated on 4 May 2009.

Kin makes 9 plus I have a couple who can’t confirm until the weekend.

Whether there are enough players for the game to go on, line ups and colours will be left to the regulars to decide. As the booking is in Tom’s name, I suppose he’ll have the final say.

Quite the opposite, actually. We work together to get enough players together, and there is no privilege attached to the booking of a pitch. Line-ups are worked out by 3-4 of us with the aim of creating evenly matched sides.

… left to the regulars to decide

is what I said. The final say is as to whether their are enough players for the game to go on at all.

Line-ups are worked out by 3-4 of us with the aim of creating evenly matched sides.

I’m glad you’ve got a system worked out. So I was right to think you don’t need the regular session system, which is in any event to cater for a larger number of individuals looking for a game, not just one regular game that may be short of regular players.

The person proposing, organizing or offering the OPSAGE should include the parameters, such as minimum or maximum number of people, selection method, or other relevant rules and principles, by which the OPSAGE is to be conducted

“Line-ups are worked out by 3-4 of us” fits right in there.

      I’d already noted that:

Several of the [Bukit Timah/Turf City] regulars would like to have more say over line ups and colours.

It also harks back to the 4-man Bukit Timah triumvirate. Nothing’s really changed has it. 🙂

As early as 4 September 2008, I had pointed out:

Going forward, line ups at Bukit Timah campus will not be pre-fixed, but will be decided at the session itself, ….

    Hi Rajiv

Since the Monday matches are within FIOFAFI members , can we have this on the normal Regular Sessions . I believe most players are the pioneers of FIOFAFI . It will be nice to include them in the ranking system and also Poll votings otherwise you will probably only end up with new players in the ranking system and with the old birds vanishing slowly that includes me too matter of time cause i might reduce my weekly games to once a week .

Rajseran, I don’t know why you see it as a problem that it goes under OPSAGE. In effect, all it means is that Monday nights gets its own scheduling post (which in the longer term, gives it a higher profile), and I don’t decide whether there are enough players for the game to go on, nor will I provide default line ups.

Having its own scheduling post also means you can have a lot more pre-match discussion.

I’m also trying to develop the OPSAGE page to allow anyone to organize their own games or activities through the blog, which is in effect what the Monday night FAFI game is now about.

As long as the line ups and results are put up on the blog, I’ll include the poll, and the result in the rankings. I’ve done it with other games under Other Activities/OPSAGE, including the 11-a-side games and the 7-a-side games against Dennis W’s team.

I included a poll for Monday’s game after Mark L provided the line ups and results.

You must agree that the FAFI game on Monday nights is different, and not necessarily routine.

I’ve also added a link from the “About FIOFAFI” page.

        Hi Rajiv ,

why arent you playing with us on Monday since most are 40++ of age 🙂

          Fri 15 May 2009 at 3:49 pm

Sorry Rajseran, I can’t do Monday nights until the end of June. Family stuff.

You might want to try the weekend game too (if it goes on) – several newer players who might play Monday nights if they knew someone who was playing.

If we cancel the Sunday game, Sushil won’t get a game this week. 🙂

My only thoughts are that most of us will just click the Regular Session and register there . Not many have the luxury like i do to read every post and comment .

      Fri 15 May 2009 at 12:50 pm

But since December, you don’t register there – you still have to follow the link from there to the correct post. There is still a link from the Regular Sessions page (now Routine Schedule page) to follow for the FAFI game on Monday nights at Turf City.

Anyway, it’s an opportunity for participants to look at the OPSAGE page to see what else is going on. It’s juse one extra click.

I don’t think it makes much difference whether it is on the Routine Schedule page or the OPSAGE page. Even when Monday night at Turf City was under the Current Schedule page (as it then was), for 3 weeks in a row, there were hardly any confirmations. The fact is, most of the regulars for Monday night at Turf City still prefer to operate by SMS.

It’s been a longstanding issue earlier recognized by both Tom and Mark L.

Raj, don’t worry about the noise – it’s about the game on the pitch.
We got 10, I’ll text you the updates.

      Anyone else want in?

        Fri 15 May 2009 at 3:52 pm

Interesting, “texting” on the pitch. Instead of verbal communication?

Slows the game down, doesn’t it?

    • rajiv
      Fri 15 May 2009 at 3:50 pm

Rajseran, if you play to the lines, won’t 10 do?

10 will do but 12 was fun the last time we played. I believe we should be able to get 12 by monday

  14. rajseran
    Mon 18 May 2009 at 4:33 pm

Rajseran passes the ball to Shankar , Shankar beats Tom and Loops the ball to Ian , Ian uses his left foot and tricked George and released it to Glenn , Glenn dummies the ball and Kin got tricked , Mark L crosses the ball to Clement and Clement does the bicylce kick going through Heath and YES its a GOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL .

The Blacks walked off the pitch after the first goal claiming it was a uneven team . 🙂

see you guys . ITs gonna be a tough match tonight.

Wonderful game again. A complete workout. Best is we got 90 mins again (could have been longer but Tom stopped the game) for 60 mins price! Also, the pitch had one light fall off, so ha ha it was dark in one corner..

    • Tue 19 May 2009 at 10:15 am

Show me mercy lah, Mark. Tired out off our feet, plus we have a couple of heavy smokers. I think one of them took a 5 minute fag break during the game. BTW, I’m away next Monday but I will still organise for the game. If anyone is interested, please post a reply here. Thanks, Tom
