Home > About FIFFA > Challenges

At present, sessions or games are arranged in one of two ways:

  • Another team offers us a game, usually either 7 or 8-a-side or 11-a-side, and usually on a Saturday (although we did have a 5-a-side game against The Cage management on a weekday night in December 2008).

Our usual weekday night sessions ordinarily fall under the first category.  As such, unless you are one of the selectors using the selection method, you don’t have much say over which team you’re in, or your team-mates.

I’m open to the idea that if any of you can put together a team of 5, you put forward a challenge for any 5 to play against the team you put together.  The 5 you put together can be other FIOFAFI participants, or other friends.

As I book pitches more than a month in advance, I’ll put the available bookings for each month up in advance from now on.  Pick a session that you would like to have the challenge. You need to already have a team available for that session to put forward a challenge.

When I put the schedule up for that week, I will specify that there is a challenge for that session, and the first 5 individuals who confirm for that session will be the opponents for the challenge.  Alternatively, any one can put together another team of 5 to be the opponents for the challenge.

Anyone who puts forward a team for a challenge will need to co-ordinate their own team, and make sure they all turn up on time for the session.  Although there is more individual responsibility, the advantage is that you get to choose your own team and team-mates.

For May 2009, the bookings are shown here.

Other ad hoc matches at the weekend can continue as before.

To start with, we have Saturday’s 7-a-side at Turf City from 5 to 6 pm.  Dennis W has put together his team.  We currently have 6 – Jye, Sushil, Rajseran, Azmi, Yuchi and Nick.  We need one more.

For individual confirmations, please wait for each week’s schedule that comes out the week before on Thursday morning. I can’t keep track for more than a week at a time.

Azmi’s friend William can probably make the game on Saturday afternoon as well, so we should have 7 – Jye, Sushil, Rajseran, Azmi, Yuchi, Nick and William.

Weeliam (well, that’s how it’s spelt on his e-mail address) can’t make it, and Rajseran is out to play the whole day on Friday, but Edardy is in. Waiting for Alan and Rizal to confirm, so we should have enough.

Sorry Rajiv. I think that’s correct spelling for his name.

Perhaps the post at the top should have been called “Match Offer” or “Match Proposal” instead of “Challenges”. 🙂

It’s where someone can put together a team, and would like to play against a FIOFAFI representative team.

In a representative game, the FIOFAFI players score 1.5 points (even if they are loaned to the opposing side). The players of the opposing side are not included in the points. Nor are they included in the player poll.

If someone would like to join one of our regular sessions, and would like to bring some friends along, that’s fine too (as long as there are sufficient places available).

The line ups may end up as that person and his friends against the rest, but even then, everyone who plays gets points, and is included in the player poll.
