Tuesday Night At The Cage: 28 April 2009

The default line ups were:

  • Reds: Lukas, Neil, Melvin, Andy N, Boon Yick
  • Whites: Gilbert, Dirk, Julius, Amaury, Poh Keng

I got a call from Wade at about 9 pm to say he had taken Julius’s place, and that Dirk had fallen into an open drain while warming up and gashed his leg.  He asked if there was anyone else available, but there was no one at that late stage.  I also called Dirk, who was in a taxi on his way to the hospital.  Hopefully, it’s nothing more serious than requiring a few stitches.

Anyone who played, feel free to provide the revised line ups, the final result/score, and any other details as comments below.

I also got an SMS from Poh Keng after the session informing me of Dirk’s injury.

Dirk SMSed later in the night to say that he’d gotten stitches and that he was alright. He expects to be out of action for a couple of weeks. Wishing you a speedy recovery Dirk.

Thank you Rajiv. Should be fine. I hope I can play again in two weeks time 🙂

And thanks a lot to all you guys yesterday evening taking care of me! Much appreciated. I heard you got a pretty good substitute from the cage?! Wah, curious to read the match report. Sorry I couldn’t join.

We got one of the organisers at the Cage to step in for Dirk and I replaced Julius. Dirk had a nasty gash which needed three stitches in the end. The lads rallied round well to get his wound cleaned and covered before putting him into a taxi bound for the nearest hospital to get sorted.
Hope you have a speedy recovery Dirk!
Back to the match. On looking at the Reds’ line-up I honestly thought we were in for a good hiding! Whites started brightly and took the initiative taking the lead and never relinquishing it. The replacement for Dirk was probably not as energetic or as fast but he had a decent touch.
Whites were defending and stopping goals well and Reds battled back on a few occasions. At one point the match was locked at 3-2 to Whites for about ten minutes. After hitting the woodwork about eight times – one finally went in and a splurge of four goals in three minutes left the Reds reeling. The only consolation they got after that was the goal of the night from Andy, a peacher from the half way line that found the top left hand corner. Final score then 11-3 Whites and it could have been more if not for the outstanding work of the left and right posts of the Reds’ goal. As we have all probably experienced at FIOFAFI – looks can be deceiving!

When i look at the reds before kick-off, they look quite intimidating.. wade scored abt 6 to 7 goals to put white in unasailable lead.. The reds worked hard to keep themselves into the game but it was tough esp when whites scored 4 quick goals. Wade was fantastic in his finishing and the whites managed put together some neat passes in the final third of the pitch and it was always a uphill task for the reds to come back. The whites was quite organised at the back and prevented the reds from getting too many shots at goal.Credit for the reds for not stopping intheir attacks until the final whistle Wade was undoubtedly the player of the session for me.

    Hi Dirk

take care , We are trying to get some $$$ from Cage to reimburde your bills . The drain there is not according to LTA regulation . Rajiv is there right now measuring the length , width and depth .

Rajiv please post your latest findings.

I concur. Such incidences must be investigated fully. Am sure Jiv will take photos of aforementioned drain – although, properly legally speaking, it cannot be a drain as such since it is larger than a normal drain. Can you also post a link to the precisest location using GPS?

More than one person has asked if I really did investigate the matter and seek compensation from The Cage. The answer lies here.
