Thursday Night At The Cage: 26 March 2009

We started the game last night at The Cage 4 v 4:

  • Blacks:  Gilbert, Sushil, Rajiv, Chris
  • Reds:  Rajseran, Shankar, John S, Neil

Blacks dominated early on, but missed several chances, while Reds took theirs, keeping the score tied at 2-2 after about 20 minutes.

Shankar’s friend then Siva arrived and joined Reds, while Kavin, one of The Cage’s managers, joined Blacks.  It looked like Siva was playing football for the first time, but he had good spells in goal.  Unfortunately for Reds, Shankar needed a few spells in goal, which meant Siva had to come out goal several times, to Rajseran’s frustration.

Reds defended stoutly, reducing Blacks to long range shots, while they took their chances at the other end, with Rajseran and Neil finishing well, to go 4-3, and then 5-4 up.

As Gilbert’s frustration at Blacks not turning their territorial advantage to goals started to grow, Blacks grabbed two late goals to win 6-5.

All in all, it was a pretty good game.

To add on, there was no mercy even it was his first time playing . The Blacks were whacking the ball from all angle and i was really worried for Siva .

At one point of time , the blacks were attacking while Siva was turning back and facing the entrance ( i did not know what he was looking at ) and thankfully the blacks did not had the chance to shoot otherwise an Ambulance would have been called .

Siva if you are reading this , even if you cant play , you only need to learn when and where to run for ball , man marking and also where to stand when in play cause most of the time you were looking loss .

It will take time for you to improve and probably will enjoy the game better . Sorry for all my shoutings last night , i think i really have to control my temper .

Sometimes, a player performs better in his element of anger and frustration.. Examples are Rooney, Roy keane and Marcos Senna.. Sometimes its good, sometimes its bad BUT it brings out the best in you..

Pretty Good Game , I am not sure .

I was Frustated , yes for sure .

Anyway i cant blame Siva for not knowing the game but at the end i think Blacks should have done better since it was more like 5 versus 4 .

In future i will like to propose this . If any one is bringing their friend down , please do let us know in advance if he knows how to play or at least average , above average or below average so that when coming to team selection , we probably can make a balance team .

I just hope i dont have the same Faith again next week .

And please dont tell me that with the score it showed that it was a balance team . Its easier said then being in the team while you are playing.

Anyway damage done to my testicals and my foot yesterday . See you on Monday.

Oh yes before i forget , i think the first 10 or 20 mins of 4 versus 4 turn out to be fun and good with more passings and playing with lines

    Hi there guys,

It was a hotly contested match and someone looking on from outside or new to the game might not appreciate the fully extent of the things at stake. I think Raj had a very good suggestion that we should indicate the aptitude levels of the people that we are asking down.

I understand Raj’s frustration to be on the loosing team consecutively. I have been there for 5-6 games back to back myself when Boris was around as i ended up being in the opposing team for those games. Equally frustrating for me was that i did not expect Siva to fare as he did. I guess, more than anything, it was Siva’s seemingly random loss of concentration in the middle of the game that i had a major issue with. (Could be attributed to the fact that Siva had something to do in the last minute at work – he is still doing his pupilage – but no excuses). Jiv was right that Siva had good spells in goal.

Taking the good things out of a defeat, i think the reds coped very well given the circumstances that we were in and actually Raj’s communication kept the team’s focus intact. Don’t stop being yourself man. We all need a waking up in some games. Yesterday was one of those games. Well done to both teams.

Shankar, let me have Siva’s e-mail address. I’ll add him to the e-mail Updates and Extras.

There is room on FIOFAFI for all working adults who want to participate, and do so in the right spirit.

Although our regular sessions have become quite competitive, over time, we can develop other types of sessions for those who are interested, but who may find the regular sessions too tough or demanding.

Or we can develop other activities to cater for different interests and abilities. Again, it will take time.
