Monday Night At The Cage: 9 March 2009

Last night’s session at The Cage was the 100th since I started keeping participation stats on 1 September 2008.

The sides were scheduled to line up as follows:

  • Blacks:  Yaseen, Yuchi, John J, Shankar, Neil
  • Reds:  Mark L, Nick, Sushil, Chris, Melvin

Anyone who played, let us have the final score, or even a report, as a comment below.

Score was tied at 11-11 when the annoucement came that time was up. Both sides went for Golden Goal and Blacks came out winners.

A game played in great spirits ..

A game that was as close as teeth’s skin. Both side played flowing football. Mark was marauding his troops forward. ( Sorry for the high leg Mark 🙂 ) Reds took a two goal lead before blacks pulled 1 back. Then it was all Reds with them having a 5 goal advantage at 1 stage. Blacks never gave up! Yuchi, John , Shankar ,Neil and myself scored a couple among ourselves. It was 10 – 9 to the Reds when Blacks scored just seconds before the final call. Sushil suggested a golden goal thing and we continued to play(i was already on my way out thinking it was a draw) . 1 swift attack from blacks and the ball somehow squeezed passed 3 Reds player near the goal line trickling into goal. Well done everyone. Very good sportsmanship, especially from Mark, Chris and Sushil. The final score being 11- 10 to the Blacks. Cheers every1.

Personally, I’m not in favour of continuing after time is called until a last goal is scored.

The furthest I’d go is to continue playing until the ball goes dead, that is, the ball is out of play or is in a goalkeeper’s hands, or a goal is scored.

I know Sushil, and perhaps a few others, are quite keen on a “last goal” though. 🙂

Like I’ve said before, it’s not for me to dictate how every game is played.

In the end, it’s the 10 on the pitch who decide.

If the 10 players on the pitch want to play on until a last goal, that’s fine with me.

On the other hand, it sounds like Yaseen didn’t know they were playing on last night, so it can’t have been all 10 who decided to play on. However, as he ended up on the winning side, I doubt Yaseen is complaining. 🙂

Yaseen, you’ve been on the winning side twice before this year – 12 January 2009 and 19 January 2009 – unless your year only starts with the Chinese New Year. 🙂

      As Tom might say:

      empirical FACT ….
