The Week Ahead: 16 February 2009

Mon 16 February 2009 Leave a comment Go to comments

The S. League kicks off tonight with Tampines Rovers playing Home United at Tampines Stadium at 7.45 pm.  Geylang United play Albirex Niigata at Bedok Stadium tomorrow night at 7.45 pm.

The S. League website finally has all the fixtures for 2009.

We’re still two votes short of a “quorum” in the vote for FIOFAFI to adopt an S. League club.

Numbers are down this week.  Perhaps a mix of niggling injuries and fatigue.  Or perhaps other commitments.

Let’s see how many sessions actually go ahead.  Feel free to introduce anyone you think might be interested in playing.  The larger the pool, the merrier.

There’s also the 11-a-side game this Saturday, 21 February 2009, 5 to 7 pm, at Meridian Junior College in Pasir Ris.  I’ll leave it to Andy M to update us over the course of this week.

    An update on Fisher Athletic:

Donna Powell suffered defeat with Fisher Athletic as she became the first woman to manage in senior football.

Struggling Fisher went down 2-1 in their Blue Square South match at home to high-flying Eastleigh on Wednesday.

Turnstile operator Powell, 27, got the opportunity to take over from boss Dave Mehmet for one game after raising £500 for the south London club.

Chairman Martin Eede hailed the second-half performance under Powell as one of the side’s best of the season.

There were also UEFA Cup games played on Wednesday and Thursday, and an S. League game played last night.
