Tuesday Night At The Cage: 3 Feb 2009

Wed 4 February 2009 Leave a comment Go to comments

Sides lined up as follows last night at The Cage:

  • Reds:  Reza, Yuchi, Joel, Andy P, Melvin
  • Whites:  Bobby, Adam, John J, Wade, Geoff

I arrived about halfway through to record a few clips.  Both sides were passing the ball well and creating chances, but Whites looked stronger, and ran away to win 15-5.

It might have been a more even game if teams had stuck with the scheduled line ups.  I’m not sure how or why Yuchi and Adam got swapped round.

I’ll let those who played tell us more.

One clip is below.

I’m not sure how much of a difference there is in the rankings between Yuchi and Adam, but as playing styles go it would have probably made it a closer game as Reds were basically overpowered by Whites who also moved the ball around very well and kept us chasing.

I didn’t realize that the line-up had been modified either – I guess Yuchi & Adam both turned up in wrong colours and we just proceeded as is. Impossible really to say how it affected the outcome in hindsight.

I thought whites were on-song mainly due to Geoff & John’s relentless running and Wade’s ability to pick them out with his distribution. For their part, Andy & Joel were also motoring about quite a bit, but Reds just didn’t click as a team last night.

On paper, I would think that any combination of teams from last night’s ten players would have been fairly evenly matched.
On the other hand, I thought Monday night’s “Fatties vs. Skinnies” match-up was rather unbalanced.
Yet, the results didn’t pan out quite as I expected it to.

    Ok Bobby.

Anyway, it was an opportunity to remind everyone to bring the correct colour, and if they’re not sure, bring both!

Geoff’s finishing was excellent last night. The last few times I’ve played in the same session as him or watched a session in which he played, he seemed to have developed the knack of repeatedly hitting the post and cross-bar from distance. Last night, they were finishing in the back of the net.
