Lo Hei

We had several ingredients thrown into the mix last night at Sports Planet @ East Coast.

The sides lined up as follows:

  • Reds:  Clive, Franco, Joel, Rob, Duncan
  • Whites: Bobby, Rajiv, Wade, Axel, Ber Luen

Rob, who only joined us recently, was playing his last game before leaving for Brisbane tomorrow. Axel, Duncan’s neighbour, was joining us for the first time.  Ber Luen, who like Dennis is based in Hong Kong, was back for the Chinese New Year, and was playing his second game while back in Singapore.

Reds looked the stronger side as we took to the pitch, but they took a while to gel, and Whites pulled ahead 4-0 early on. Wade was making the most of the space he was given, showing good skill, while Ber Luen and Axel were full of running.  Bobby was reliable as usual.

Whites maintained their four goal advantage as the score progressed to 11-7.   Although Reds got more into the game, Whites defended well, while Reds always looked vulnerable when Whites broke forward.

Towards, the end, Reds started putting away their chances, while Whites missed a few, but Whites held on to win 11-10 (Reds last goal being scored after time was called).

There were a few robust challenges and a couple of heated moments, but overall, a very good game, played in generally good spirits.

There was also an unfortunate accident when Joel, charging forward and leaping for a header, missed the ball completely, and collided into the back of his team-mate, Duncan, flattening him.  However, Duncan was soon back on his feet.

The groin strain I suffered last week recurred last night, more towards the hip joint.

I had been planning to lay off for a week or two, but I really couldn’t get anyone else for last night, especially after three withdrawals over the course of the day, and as the session was at Sports Planet rather than The Cage.

I think I’ll have to lay off for a week or two.

Take a break Rajiv. A week or two off should be enough to recover. If you need anyone as an emergency replacement you can call me.

No Tom. I think we’re all beginning to learn that it’s not worth the adverse comments that it generates on the blog. The blog is also very educational.

I guess that’s one way of dealing with it.

I mean in the future if you need an emergency replacement you can give me a call.

Yes yas, I’m the most unlikely person to give that advice but if Rajiv plays and his groin pull becomes a groin tear, it might render him incapable of managing the blog which would result in no Futsal! The horror..
