Another Tuesday Night At The Cage

Luke SMSed me at 8.03 pm last night to say

I can’t make the game tonight as I am still in town with a client with no end in [sight]. Sorry for the inconvenience.

I put that down as an unforeseeable exigency.  Rather than asking The Cage to provide a player to replace Luke, I called around to a few regulars who I thought might be prepared to play last night at short notice.  By 8.19 pm, John J had agreed to play.  One of the advantages of a large pool of participants.

The sides lined up as follows:

  • Reds:  Murray, Mark L, Adam, Rob, Melvin
  • Whites:  Yuchi, Bobby, Wade, Chris, John J
An ambulance - not for FIOFAFI sessions

An ambulance - not for FIOFAFI sessions

I popped by after dinner, arriving at about 9.30 pm. Surprisingly, Yaseen was there, having dropped by on his way home after visiting his fiancee in the east.

As I arrived at The Cage, I saw an ambulance waiting to take an injured player away.

On Pitch 3, the FIOFAFI session was in full flow.

At the end of the game, I was informed that the final score was 11-7 to Reds.   Everyone who played, feel free to comment below on the session.

As John J was a late replacement, I’ll put it down as an unranked game for him alone.

Wonderful game- lots of running off the ball, and thoroughly enjoyable!

Other than Murray and John- i think it was my first time with everyone else at this meeting. i was joking/ commenting with Adam before the game that since i came to the Cage (or to the East), it tends to be a more ‘International’ crowd versus the more ‘Local’ crowd over at Bukit Timah on Mondays.

For me, Mon and Tues were pretty different playing styles. Tues seems to have been more open as both teams adopted a pass and run into space approach. Mon for me seemed to be more tight, less space on the ball, and more people running direct at you. Both style have their own merits, but for me, i guess this difference in approach made it a rewarding evening.

Adam, Murray, Melvin and Rob (Sorry Rob, i kept calling you Tom in the game) were of course full of running which was really nice.. means i can slack off and rest. On the opposing team, Wade, John, Bobby, Yuchi and Chris were at it too. Perhaps we were a little more fortunate in our players having longer legs (Hee Hee refering to Adam, Rob and Murray).. so we got to the loose balls faster. The scoreline was certainly more tight then the end result.. but it was fun.. played in the right spirit.. and most importantly- a great workout!

Whites also stood off the ball perhaps a little more than Reds. Which meant lots of pot shots from distance… which served in my opinion 2 purpose- 1 a chance to score (and we did from distance), and 2, an opportunity to scare the wits out of the opposing team (esp keeper) as we hit wild mad hard balls everywhere toward the goal…

Whites had quite a few opportunities mid way with 3-1 or 2-1 situations.. but a case of misplaced passes.. or good goalkeeping, and just plain bad luck meant they never pressured Reds as much as they would have liked.

i must also say that the cage now seems to have fixed this giant fan on pitch 3 (which in the past i never did rememebr having it working). But its great.. its so much cooooooleeer there now.

    I have a question

    since the line up was

Reds: Murray, Mark L, Adam, Rob, Melvin
Whites: Yuchi, Bobby, Wade, Chris, John J

How was Boris involved in the POLL. Did not know that MAscot are involved in some way for Polling 🙂

Thanks Mark. Would you like to be added as an author? 🙂

If you look at the Contact List, you’ll see that there have been several new participants since the end of last year.

Thanks Rajseran, that should be Bobby, not Boris, in the poll. It has been corrected.
