Comings And Goings

Sun 11 January 2009 Leave a comment Go to comments

Most of the people who have joined our sessions since the blog was set up in December 2007 were introduced by friends, colleagues or relatives. I had been keeping a listing.

A few have joined us at the venues at which we have played.

At the end of last year, Tristan became the first person to join us after finding us on the internet. After his last game with us on 30 December 2008, he told me had found the clips of our sessions on Youtube after doing a search on Google Video on “Futsal in Singapore”.

While our numbers grew significantly over the course of last year, we have had departures. Apart from those who simply stopped playing and may or may not still be in Singapore, we have had a few who have left Singapore.

Of those I know of –

  • When I SMSed Steve du P yesterday to see if he could play on Wednesday, he replied to say he had been transferred to Perth and was re-locating on Monday.

If you’re going away, feel free to pop onto the blog to say goodbye, and if you’re ever back in Singapore, feel free to join a session by confirming on the blog as usual. If you can’t access the blog, you can e-mail or SMS me.

Dennis joined us for a couple of games in October 2008, and he e-mailed me on Friday to say he would be back for another couple of games over the Chinese New Year. We look forward to seeing you again Dennis.

Of those who have stopped playing, a couple (Nicolas and Juha) have informed me that they are recovering from long-term injuries (not picked up in a FIOFAFI session of course, although Nicolas’ may have been aggravated by playing on the hard courts at Bukit Timah campus).

If anyone intends to stop playing indefinitely, it would be good if they could let me know, preferably on the blog, but by e-mail or SMS if need be. It would be useful for me to know why as well. However, I guess if someone is not interested enough to continue playing, they’re unlikely to be interested enough to let me know, let alone give a reason.

Shankar and John J have informed me that Llion has returned to Britain for personal reasons and is not expected back in Singapore.

Ladi is returning to Britain tomorrow, to take up a new position there. It’s a pity he couldn’t manage a game with us this week before he leaves.

Like I said above, if you’re leaving Singapore, feel free to come along here to say goodbye, and if you do return to Singapore at any stage, even for a visit, feel free to join a session by checking out the availability of places under Current Schedule.

Wherever you may go, you’re always welcome to comment on the blog about anything.

Nagappan found us through the internet and Boris. In reply to my e-mail, he said:

… im from india now im in sengkang in ma uncles home and im leaving on 12th then im 22 yrs old ….

Reza has an invitation from Dennis to play futsal in Hong Kong.

Boris has set an example – just because you leave Singapore doesn’t mean you can’t read the blog and comment.

Like I said, if you are already on the Participant List, I’ll leave you on it even if you don’t play for more than two consecutive quarters, as long as you comment on the blog from time to time.

This is to be contrasted with Nagappan, who apart from never getting round to playing, sent me an e-mail on Wednesday to say:

pls take me frm mail list…im in australia now this mails or of no use to me

A man on a long journey, evidently.

Hi Rajiv, it would be nice if we have pictures of ex FIOFAFI players on the blog. For myself, i do not know who llion is.. I have played with Ladi though.. Even though we may not know a person personally, there is this sense of melancholy when you hear that a person is not coming back to Singapore anymore..

I think Llion is one of the earlier video clips. When you watch the video clips and see a player you don’t recognise, feel free to ask who it is.

We can only add photos if they’re provided to us. It’s been raised more than once before.

There’s always the FIOFAFI Facebook Group.
