FIOFAFI – A Review Of Recent Developments

Tue 2 September 2008 Leave a comment Go to comments

There has been a lot of development since late July:

  • Bret, Raj, Reza, Joe and John have joined Tom and me in writing session reports.
  • Tom is maintaining individual stats, including win-loss ratios, and goal charts for those who play at Bukit Timah.

Most significantly of all, I’ve dropped 40+ addresses from my e-mail updates and extras with effect from yesterday.   Only those on the Contact List, and a handful of guests and newcomers, will continue to receive the Updates and Extras.

Guests and newcomers are either:

  • Anyone who has started to play with us or who would like to play with us, but hasn’t yet decided whether to be added to the Contact List, for up to a month.
  • From time to time, anyone else who might have an interest in, or who might know others who have an interest in, our activities and the contents of the blog.

Since it was first introduced at the end of May, the Contact List has grown gradually.

I’ve tried to suss out our typical profile, and worked out our age profile. The median age is 35.

I’ve also had a look at how those who are on the Contact List came to join us, in particular, the number of persons introduced by each introducer, which is set out here.

Collin has introduced 11, and I have introduced 10, although far more of the participants that Collin has introduced play regularly than the ones I have.  In fact, four of the participants I have introduced have not, even after some time, played with us yet.

Feel free to introduce anyone who might be interested.  The more the merrier, and if sessions are consistently oversubscribed, we’ll just have more sessions each week, which ultimately translates to more choice.  Easy ways to introduce new people are to provide the web address for this blog, or to forward my regular Updates and Extras, to anyone who you think might be interested.

Other ways to participate include attending FIOFAFI drinks or playing in our 11-a-side games, or even just commenting on the blog.  Despite being in Hong Kong, Dennis still finds the time to comment on the blog.

If you’re playing in Tom’s Fantasy League, an occasional update on the blog on how it’s going might be good.

From 1 September onwards, I am maintaining attendance records.  This is not for me to check on how frequently or regularly you participate, but for the following purposes:

Most of all, it’s meant to be fun.

PS. There will be further developments before the end of the year.

Mark L, if you wish to express your appreciation, feel free to do so here, or on the more general “Discussion” page. 😉

Thanks Mark. Is Ian the someone else you’re thinking of?

I’ve set out the “division of labour” for sessions at Bukit Timah campus here.

Now that you are technically part of the BTC “Triumvirate”, you can share in the “pain”.

As discussed earlier, with our increasing fitness and competitiveness, our sessions have become faster and more physical, and in particular, our 6 v 6 games have become somewhat frenetic, so as far as possible, I’ll cap the numbers at 10 (5 v 5) and see how that goes.

With our increasing fitness, I think we could even manage 4 v 4 if numbers are short.

If numbers are higher, we can have additional sessions.

The number of page views last week reached 1,092, the first time the weekly number has exceeded 1,000. The weekly figure had been hovering between 700 and 950 in the previous five weeks.

On 24 April 2008, Tom suggested

if I may suggest that you separate the match reports from the schedule related content, and both separate from the ECA items.

I have been doing so since May, and have now backdated that to 24 March 2008.

We had no Update yesterday as I was away. As tomorrow is a public holiday, and as most of you receive FIOFAFI e-mails in the office, I’ll put out an Extra today, instead of an Update tomorrow.

There will be no Update on Monday, 27 October 2008, as it is a public holiday.
