Wednesday Night At Sports Planet: 2 September 2009
The line ups were:
- Whites: Shankar, Bobby, Alex F, AJ, Eam
- Reds: Neil M, Rajiv, Neil S, Bernard, Kannan
Whites were quickly out of the blocks, racing to a 3-0 lead, with Eam and AJ full of running, and Alex F linking up well.
Reds pulled it back to 2-3, and although Whites twice regained a two goal lead, to 5-5. Reds created several chances, but found Bobby and Shankar difficult to beat in goal or in defence, with Neil M’s finishing pulling Reds level.
Whites re-took a 3 goal lead at 8-5, before Reds had their best spell, pulling ahead 12-8, with Bernard and Neil S dominating the game. At 8-8, Shankar had the ball in the back of Reds’ net while Neil M in goal was clutching his ankle, but sportingly decided it should not count.
Reds extended their lead to 14-9 before Whites pulled two back, to 11-14, before Reds grabbed the last goal of the game for a 15-11 win.
Whites started strong, but Reds finished the game better, especially with Whites tiring.
A very good session, with lots of one-two passing and skills on display, played at a high pace.
Thanks to Shankar for being so sporting. I turned my ankle in goal as the ball was spread wide to Shankar, and when he shot I was already down on my knees. Thankfully no lasting damage, but it was the first time I’ve turned that ankle since I had the ligaments stitched back together last October, so I was a little concerned!
On a separate note, I also played on Tuesday night, but initially turned up at the wrong venue, finding myself at Sports Planet at 9pm when I should have been at The Cage! I was on my mountain bike, so raced as fast as I could to get to The Cage, and turned up at 9.13pm, which I think was pretty good going since it’s about 5km from one to the other! It got me thinking that I should start a new OPSGAGE – time trial mountain biking from Sports Planet to The Cage! If anyone thinks they can beat my time of 13 minutes, go for it!!!
We might have to wait a while before your record is broken. Can’t be often that anyone cycles to the wrong venue.
