The final of hockey’s Junior World Cup takes place this evening. Germany face The Netherlands. Unfortunately, it is being played in Johor Bahru.
Germany are 4-time winners – 1982, 1985, 1989 and 1993. The Netherlands have reached the finals once before, in 1985, when they lost to Germany.
The third-fourth placing match between Australia and New Zealand takes place before that, also in Johor Bahru.
S. League matches resume on Monday after a three-week break for the League Cup. Fixtures this for this week are:
- Monday night at Woodlands Stadium: Woodlands Wellington v Albirex Niigata
- Wednesday night in Brunei: DPMM v Geylang United
- Thursday night at Hougang Stadium: Sengkang Punggol v Tampines Rovers
- Friday night at Toa Payoh Stadium: Balestier Khalsa v Super Reds
- Saturday night at Jurong West Stadium: Gombak United v Home United
- Saturday night at Choa Chu Kang Stadium: SAFFC v Young Lions
Kevin has asked if we’d be interested in a re-match against him team on 11 July 2009 at East Spring Secondary School, Tampines, at 3.15 pm. If you’re interested, please add a comment below as soon as possible.
Germany win hockey’s Junior World Cup defeating The Netherlands 3-1 in the final in Johor Bahru last night. Australia finish third, after defeating New Zealand 4-1 in the third-fourth placing match played before the final.
Who is in for an 11-a-side on Saturday, 11 July 2009, 3.15 pm, at East Spring Secondary School (Tampines): Rajseran for one. Chris and Luke?
Anyone else?
Kevin, you might have to wait until after this Saturday’s 11-a-side game before people turn their attention to the next one.
Hi everyone, if we could get some numbers in and confirm that game by this Friday, that would be excellent.
You need to assk Jiv to create a new PAge for yourself…
Mark, I’m trying to get everyone to make better use of the OPSAGE page. Follow the link from there.
I’ll remind everyone in the e-mails this week.
For 11-a-side games, I’m currently only putting a separate post up when there is sufficient interest, to co-ordinate numbers and line ups.
Still no one?
Give it to the end of Friday at least Kevin. Looks like we might have to start SMSing.
At Woodlands Stadium last night: Woodlands Wellington 0 Albirex Niigata 1
Hi Rajiv,
what do you think, is there a possibility to set up a small tournament within FIOFAFI this July?
Do we have enough active players at the moment to make this happen on a weekend?
We probably have enough Philipp. Some considerations:
• Several have been travelling a lot of late.
• Some of those who play on weekday nights prefer 11-a-side at the weekends.
• Of those who would play futsal at the weekend, some prefer Saturday while others prefer Sunday.
We would only need a minimum 16 for a 4-team mini-tournament at The Cage. An 8-team mini-tournament could accommodate up to 40 players, but I doubt we’d reach that number. What is more achievable is 24 for a 4-team mini-tournament at Turf City.
I’ll include the suggestion in Friday’s e-mail. The last weekend of July – 25th or 26th, or even the first weekend of August – 1st or 2nd?
A tournament with trophies and player of the tournament.. that will be an motivational factor…
I would vote for a tournament end of July, since I am gone during August
Ok, either Saturday 25 July 2009 or Sunday 26 July 2009. Either at Turf City or The Cage. 4 to 5 pm?
If anyone wants extras, like food/drink or prizes, let me know the estimated cost, and if reasonable, I’ll factor that into the total cost. The person proposing will of course have to follow up to provide the extras, and keep it within the estimated cost.
I can play Sunday 26 July as this is the only day i will be back in Singapore for the next 4 weeks. But could not find anywhere to sign up. Pls sign me up.
Thanks
Sushil George
Under the latest OPSAGE post would have been fine. Here is fine too.

Hello people of FIOFAFI
I know a lot of you are international business men of mystery and was therefore hoping that you can help me with the following request.
Do you know of any expats living and working in the following cities who might be interested in being interviewed as part of a Channel News Asia show ?
(Questions will focus on areas regarding the business climate of the city, how they have settled in and moments of culture shock they have experienced. It will be a five minute segment of the show)
Do you also know of any nationals (of the countries) living and working in the cities below who might be interested in being guides?
(They would be filmed taking us around certain places, showing us the sites, the food, explaining some cultural practices, habits etc – this one could be a bit more involved than the interview, however it is up to the person how much time they can give. Ideally we are looking for someone who would not mind allowing us to visit their home etc)
Jakarta
Bahrain
Seoul
Deli
Mumbai
Manila
Taipei
This is for the second series of Culture Shock which is a travel, business show loosely based on the books of the same name. It is a opportunity for those interviewed to get more regional profile for their business and have a bit of fun. No money in it I am afraid, the budget for the show is very, very tight, believe me. However all expenses will be paid.
Please let me know ASAP.
Give me their contact details and I will pass them on to the production team.
Obviously they must be confident and prepared to be filmed.
Many thanks
Nick
• Last night at Jurong West Stadium: Gombak United 2 Home United 1
• Last night at Choa Chu Kang Stadium: SAFFC 2 Young Lions 1
Gombak United remain a point clear of SAFFC, having played a game more.
Is the 11-a-side game on 11 July still on? If so, I’m up for playing.
John
i am up for the mini tornament as well.
