Report On Impromptu Mini-Tournament Last Night
Last night’s impromptu mini-tournament at The Cage worked out well.
The four teams were as follows:
- Team A (Black/Green): Murray (c), Damian, Steve, Qaleel, Jonathan
- Team B (Red): Philipp (c), Reza, Rajseran, Joel, Julius
- Team C (White): Andy M (c), Bobby, John S, Matt, Neil
- Team D (Black): Yaseen (c), Mark, Edardy, Shankar, Wade (late replacement for Siva).
The results were as follows:
Game Pitch 2 Pitch 3 1 Team A v Team B: 2-3 Team C v Team D: 1-5 2 Team B v Team C: 6-4 Team D v Team A: 4-5 3 Team C v Team A: 1-6 Team D v Team B: 2-1
The final table was:
Team P W D L GF GA Pts Team A 3 2 0 1 13 8 6 Team D 3 2 0 1 11 7 6 Team B 3 2 0 1 10 8 6 Team C 3 0 0 3 6 17 0
After a losing start, Team A won the mini-tournament on goal difference from Team D and Team B.
A late goal conceded by Team B in their 1-2 loss to Team D in their last game cost them an outright win.
The outcome will be added to the end-of-week rankings as stated in Wednesday’s post.
We can do an impromptu mini-tournament whenever:
- We get 16 to 20 (for The Cage), or 20 (for other venues), participants confirmed for that night.
- Two pitches are available at the venue.
- I am available (or someone else who is not playing is available) to “officiate”.
I imagine it might be feasible on a weekday night about once every month or two. However, it will be impromptu, and I will not pre-arrange it as part of the weekly schedule. A mini-tournament at the weekend is a different matter.

An excerpt from Team C v Team A can be found here.
Photos of all the matches can be found on the FIOFAFI Facebook Group.
I also finally gave out the “FIFAOnline 2″ DVDs.
Add your comments below. Reports on or analysis of each game is particularly welcome.
It was really fun last night! Well done Rajiv for organising it! Although the total time spent was still an hour (like it is weekly) but you have to put in 100% for every game which makes it more challenging. Win or lose, it felt good. Thanks People.
Althouhg if we won, it would have FELT BETTER! Hee Hee. My fault. i let in 2 or more soft goals in our 2nd game. Or else Team Local may have topped the tables! Ha Ha Ha..
Hi MARK its all the fun that matters man.. Cheers
agreed – thoroughly enjoyed it last night – well up for one of those once every one or two months. cheers for organising rajiv.

Good Competition and we were so closed to win the game . Could the last goal been disqualified since it was scored at 10.03 pm / Hmmm good try some will say ./
Anyway good game and my team did played well . Two straight wins and the last game we were also leading by 1 up but unfortunately we lost our momentum 5 mins to the end.
Good Sportsmanship.. I am nursing a swelling right knee now
Otherwise a good and closely knitted competition with only goal difference that made thr=e difference
Sorry for that late tackle but i guess i suffering the same on my shin .
To everyone who said thanks, you’re welcome. Like I said, it worked out well.
Once the numbers for Thursday looked good, it wasn’t much additional work. I had to be there even though I wasn’t playing, but I’ve anyway been doing that once a week or fortnight for a couple of months now.
A simpler alternative (especially if I’m playing and no one else is available to administer the mini-league) is a knock-out tournament:
Semi-finals (9.00 to 9.27 pm):
• 1: Team A v Team D
• 2: Team B v Team C
Third & Fourth placing (9.33 to 10.00 pm):
• Losing team in Semi-final 1 v Losing team in Semi-Final 2.
Finals (9.33 to 10.00 pm):
• Winning team in Semi-Final 1 v Winning Team in Semi-Final 2.
The ranking points scored will be the same as in a mini-league tournament, depending on whether a team finishes first, second, third or fourth.
For that to be fair, i suppose you would have to seed the teams- which makes me think- are there enough stats now to figure out whether the team with the highest rank player is more likely to win that the team with the second and third highest ranked players?
I think the method used to determine the line ups the last time would be fair.
Ranked games are good Reza but not the ranking system.. Got the picture?? Me either
Yaseen, I’ll explain the system to you in person one day.
In the meantime, you’ll just have to settle for this.
