Schedule: Week Of 8 December 2008
Monday, 8 December 2008, is a public holiday (Hari Raya Haji). As stated last week, we have the bigger pitch at The Premier Pitch (at S$160) for the morning. There is even the option of either 9 to 10 am or 10 to 11 am. To everyone confirming for Monday morning, please indicate your preference. The majority preference as at the end of tomorrow will determine what time we start. The only real difference is how early you’ll have to wake up on a public holiday.
If we don’t get 14 by Friday, then we’ll switch back to the smaller pitch. We managed to get 16 for this Monday.
The remaining sessions next week are:
- Wednesday, 10 December 2008, 9 to 10 pm, The Cage (Kallang).
- Thursday, 11 December 2008, 9 to 10 pm, Sports Planet @ East Coast.
10 each for Wednesday and Thursday.
If numbers are good next week, we’ll revert to four sessions the week after (week of 15 December 2008).
As always, all confirmations or any subsequent withdrawal as a comment below please. After you confirm, your confirmation should appear as a comment below.
Please specify both the day (Monday, Wednesday or Thursday) and the venue (The Premier Pitch, Sports Planet @ East Coast or The Cage) in your confirmation.
Thanks.
Yay! I finally get to be the first to post!
Monday at the Premier Pitch (9am) and Wednesday at the Cage for me please.
Thanks.
Wednesday for me thanks.
Hi Rajiv
Monday ( 9am) and Wednesday for me . Thanks
Hi Jiv
Mon for me at Bukit Timah at 9 am.
Whether for an hour or two, depends on numbers. But i guess an hour would work well for me since i have birthday lunches after…
Mon 9am @ the pitch & Wed @ the cage for me. Tks
i’ll be out of country this coming week, so sorry, i cannot play!
see u all the following week!
Hi all,
Dirk introduced me to this website. Wonder if you all mind girls joining? I am one and am interested in playing.
Hi May
Mixed sessions have come up before.
I’m ok with it, and I believe a few are too, but not necessarily everyone, so I’ve been thinking of designating certain sessions as mixed sessions.
However, that will probably be in the new year.
In the meantime, feel free to join us at the FIOFAFI drinks on 13 December 2008, 6 pm onwards, at Scruffy Murphy’s.
May… You can join us on Monday and we will get sky rocket attendance….
Eh, you may want to check out ‘Match Report’ to get a feel of the passion in the games.. HEHEHEHE.
Am in for Monday, preferably at 10am. Also on Thursday.
@May: Welcome to the site. Re. women playing the game: it’s no problem with me. You just have to bear with the usual machosimo.
In fact, Rajiv (the creator of this site) once proposed such an arrangement. My suggestion would be to give it a go at one of the sessions, whether at East Coast or wherever. Rajiv’s idea of designating a session a week as “Mixed” is a good one. The question of timing (now, next week or January or March) is an open one: for me personally, there is no time like now.
@Mark: I thought the reason you play so regularly on Mondays is because of me, no?
Wednesday @ the Cage please
HI Tom
probably you wanna bring your Secretary along too:)
Hi Rajiv,
I’d like to play on Wednesday at the Cage please.
John
Wednesday at the Cage please.
And would like to bring a friend of mine, Lukas.
He wants to join FIOFAFI.
Can?
Thanks!
@ Redseason.. Ya.. i play mainly cos of you… !@#!#
Monday
Hi Rajiv
Any chance of playing 2 hours instead if we have 16 players ? I felt Monday’s game was pretty short when you have 16 players.
monday 8.12.(PP), 2hours and thursday 11.12.(EC) please.
Phillip no more allowed to bring guys only girls!!!…;-)
I think we have a Shanti in the group too
Could be some Indian Babe from Bollywood .
@Raj: Maybe it’s possible on a small pitch, but I don’t know if we can last the 2 hours on the big pitch. Bear in mind that two hours on the big pitch (provided there are enough players) will cost $320.
I am in For Monday @ the Pitch 9 i am neutral regarding timing) and Thursdy @ Sports planet.
Cheers
Rajiv, was there going to be another team joining us on Monday from somewhere else? So if we provide 2 teams, there will be 3 teams playing over 2 hrs, which could be manageable. Personally, I always feel that 1 hr is insufficient.
Hi Hi!
Mixed sessions sound great! I would love to join if there is any. For now, if there are any sessions where you all can’t find any kaki, pls email me. Or sometimes if both teams are too unevenly matched, I can join the weaker team to balance it out
Thanks,
may
@ Franco: Even if this Lukas is a Podolski?
sorry, i mean join the stronger team.. oops..
May, why don’t you just sign up for next week Wednesday or Thursday session to see if it works out.
@ Phillip, “Koelle Allaf”..:)…sure Prince Poldi is always welcome…then becomes more fun…the best together with May too..;)
@ May, here is the main problem in the first place…:)… each team think it’s the stronger one…I would suggest we look for you, to join the rougher team to avoid too much full contact and following injuries..and mostly these team’s need a kind of pressure absorber…maybe like a bassist in a band…:)
How to determine which team is rougher than the other? Does Rajiv need to come up with a ranking for player roughness also?
maybe we go by size and weight?…;-)
That will be a sight- May + 4 biggest guys against the 5 smallest guys.
The rankings are official.
I don’t think Franco’s colleagues can make Monday morning.
As Tom pointed out, 2 hours will cost $320, so even if we get up to 16, that’s $20 per person.
If you find 2 hours with 3 teams (ie, with several breaks) is better than 1 hour flat out, try putting more effort into that one hour
.
Since there seems to be a lot of interest in a mixed session, we can start the following week when we go back to 4 sessions – on Wednesday, 17 December 2008.
Monday at the Premier Pitch and Wednesday at The Cage please.
Thanks Rajiv!
I will go for the session on 17Dec.
hi rajiv wednesday at the cage for me.. thanks
wed pls
We have 11 for Wednesday at The Cage. Would anyone playing Wednesday like to switch to Monday or Thursday (if you’re not already playing those days)?
Thursday at the East Coast for me please.
Switch me to Thursday
Hi,
Please put me in for Thursday.
Ronak
hi rajiv can u include me for thursday’s session as well.. thanks..
Thursday please
Confirmations so far for next week:
• Morning of Monday, 8 December 2008, The Premier Pitch (Turf City). – 10: Kevin, Rajseran, Mark L, Bobby, Tom, Santi, Franco, Shankar, Ian, me. At least 4 more for the bigger pitch. For those who wouldn’t ordinarily play at The Premier Pitch, it’s a chance to try it out – it’s a public holiday after all. If we don’t get 14 by the end of tomorrow, we’ll cap it at 10 for the smaller pitch. The preference seems to be for a 9 am start. Colours: Black, Red.
• Wednesday, 10 December 2008, 9 to 10 pm, The Cage (Kallang) – 10: Kevin, Edardy, Rajseran, Bobby, John S, Philipp, Lukas, Ian, Yaseen, Kin. Colours: White, Black.
• Thursday, 11 December 2008, 9 to 10 pm, Sports Planet @ East Coast – 9: Tom, Franco, Shankar, Mike A, Gilbert, Ronak, Yaseen, Andy M, me. 1 more. Colours: Red, White.
As the Wednesday and Thursday sessions are almost full, there is the option of playing on Tuesday, 9 December 2008 at The Cage, 9 to 10 pm. It could be our first mixed session, and it is subject to having enough players (10) by Sunday afternoon. As a mixed session, for purposes of the rankings, although it will still count as a game played, it won’t count as a win or loss. Anyone who is already confirmed for other sessions, let me know if you’d play Tuesday as well. If you’d switch from either Wednesday or Thursday, but would only do so if the session goes ahead, please indicate accordingly.
Anyone else who is keen to play Wednesday or Thursday will be listed as on reserve for now.
Would like to give Monday and Thursday a go if there are spaces, once the regulars have commited.

Bad news. The Premier Pitch called me last night to say that they are closed for the rest of the month as they have been required by the civil defence to replace their roofing.
Good news is that I have just managed to get a pitch at The Cage from 9 to 10 am on Monday. The revised schedule for next week is as follows:
• Monday, 8 December 2008, 9 to 10 am at The Cage (Kallang). I won’t assume that everyone confirmed for The Premier Pitch will play at The Cage, so please re-confirm, but anyone who earlier confirmed for The Premier Pitch who re-confirms by the end of today will be given priority. We will need 10 to confirm or re-confirm by the end of tomorrow for the session to go on. Colours: Red, Black.
• Tuesday, 9 December 2008, 9 to 10 pm at The Cage (Kallang). I added this session because Wednesday and Thursday filled up quickly. It is also an opportunity to have our first mixed session. So far, only May, Joel and Boon Yick have indicated any interest. Please confirm as usual. There’s just one girl, nothing for anyone to be afraid of! We need 10 by the end of Sunday for the session to go on. Colours: Black, White.
As a mixed session, for purposes of the rankings, although it will still count as a game played (which still gets you ranking points), it won’t count as a win or loss, so it’s also chance for those of you who have been away for a while to get back into regular sessions without worrying about the result (remember, you actually lose points for a loss).
• Wednesday, 10 December 2008, 9 to 10 pm, The Cage (Kallang) – 10: Kevin, Edardy, Rajseran, Bobby, John S, Philipp, Lukas, Ian, Yaseen, Kin. Boon Yick in reserve. Colours: White, Black.
• Thursday, 11 December 2008, 9 to 10 pm, Sports Planet @ East Coast – 10: Tom, Franco, Shankar, Mike A, Gilbert, Ronak, Yaseen, Andy M, Nick, me. Colours: Red, White.
Again, anyone who is already confirmed for Wednesday or Thursday sessions, let me know if you’d play Tuesday as well. If you’d switch from either Wednesday or Thursday, but would only do so if the session goes ahead, please indicate accordingly.
Yes, I’m still on for Monday morning at The Cage, 9 – 10am.
Count me out of the Cage game on Monday
I’m out of the Cage.
@Jiv: given that Mase hasn’t paid his electricity bills (allegedly) and has holes in the roof (allegedly), can we get Monday nights at East Coast (9-10) for the rest of December?
ALTERNATIVELY, as a short-term measure, there is also http://www.ficosport.com/ (located “in the West”).
I am still in for Monday morning @ the Cage.
Shankar
I suggest we play in Fico this Monday morning.
Tom, why don’t you try FICO for Monday evening rather than changing the venue for the Monday morning session again? I’ll keep the Monday morning session at The Cage and cancel the Tuesday night session at The Cage. Since Wednesday and Thursday are full, we should be able to get enough Tuesday to Thursday regulars to fill a Monday morning session at The Cage, while we should also be able to get the Monday night Bukit Timah regulars for the session at night. We might have to SMS though, to fill up the places by Monday
.
Is that ok?
I’m on for Monday at Fico or the Cage.
If monday’s session gets canned, slot me in for Tues. Tks
Well, we haven’t really changed the Monday session to The Cage since only 2 out of the 10 have replied positively
and that, too, before the alternative to book FICO for this Monday was proposed.
(I agree though about the SMS duty … sigh)
I thought you and Raj weren’t keen to play at 9 am though
. What time are you proposing for FICO on Monday?
I don’t know about Santi, but it’s not the time issue (9 or 10 is better than no football) for me, but the Cage issue. It’s enclosed and (if I recall) the surface is just bad.
THIS Monday’s FICO game is proposed to kick-off at 9am (the original time for The Pitch).
Ok, is it booked already? Maximum 10?
10 going up to 12 (I am a girl after all). I’ll book online after we get the numbers as there are no refunds. It’s not a problem getting a pitch.
Sometimes a girl – you’re not entitled to any greater claim
.
There is a location map here.
Car
(From PIE, heading towards Tuas): Exit left at Jalan Bahar, turn left into Jurong West Ave 3 and turn left again into Jurong West St 25
(From AYE, heading towards Tuas): Exit right at Jalan Boon Lay, drive straight to Jalan Bahar, turn right into Jurong West Ave 3 and turn left into Jurong West St 25
i am game for FICO if we can get 10… but its far man…
It’s at exit 34 on PIE, while it’s exit 22 to Turf City … yes, it is far. I haven’t gotten out my ruler yet so I don’t know if it is further than to The Cage for the West regulars. Any comments?
Ha Ha. i know i can cycle from home to National Stadium.. using Bukit Timan & Nichol Hwy the speedometer reads about 12 Km odds to the cage.
Speed wise, i think both sides would be about the same. Cage is more central for all (if people live in the East), but FICO is way out for those in the East. So i leave it to you i guess.
Sorry, out for Monday at FICO cos it’s way too far for me (I live in Pasir Ris and getting to the Premier Pitch is already a distance).
I can play Tuesday at the Cage and Thursday sports planet if theres space – though i must say having to sign up more than a week before to ensure your gonna get a game is a piss take.
Tom, do you think we can get the views of some of the other recent exclusively Bukit Timah regulars, like George, Clive and Mark C? No point moving to FICO, then not getting enough players as it is too far for even the Bukit Timah regulars, when we can might actually get a session going at The Cage, which is, in the larger scheme of Singapore as a geographical whole, more central.
The schedule comes out on Wednesday for the following week, so do check on the Wednesday, especially if you have a strong preference for particular days, but if you’re flexible, there should be no problem getting to play a session or two.
Even if you don’t get your preferred day immediately, it’s worth putting yourself down in reserve, as places do often become available.
And anyone who confirms for more than one session, without expressing a strong preference for any one of the sessions, risks getting bumped from any one of those sessions under the priority system.
As numbers increase, the system will have to evolve to take into account differing preferences, expectations, abilities and standards. Give it a bit of time.
@Murray: yup, this is part of a plot to monetize FAFI. We’ll soon be having subscriptions etc.
@Kevin: From Pasir Ris, FICO seems like the other side of the moon. Way out!
@Jiv: am SMSing (sigh) everyone who has signed up for Monday but who is unaware of proposed change of venue.
I am in For Fico .
And for those who are complaining abt distance , oh please i leave in the west and still travel to the east to play . Its not abt distance guys , its abt the love of the sport.
@ Tom- i think Cage would get us better responses based on the fact that its central vs FICO.
@Manuel: you may be right. Let’s see in the next couple of hours. Am still SMSing. sigh
For Monday, 8 December 2008, 9 to 10 am, it is now provisionally at FICO (for the reasons set out above, and subject to any further views that may be expressed, with the option of switching it to The Cage, also from 9 to 10 am, depending on the views expressed). I’m sorry, but everyone who confirmed earlier, please re-confirm (other than Bobby, Mark L and Rajseran, who have already re-confirmed). We will need 10 to confirm or re-confirm. If we get enough for FICO, it will go on there. Colours: Red, Black.
Again, there is a location map for FICO here.
Update on the rest of this week:
• Tuesday, 9 December 2008, 9 to 10 pm at The Cage (Kallang) – 5: May, Joel, Boon Yick, Murray, me. 5 more. Colours: Black, White.
• Wednesday, 10 December 2008, 9 to 10 pm, The Cage (Kallang) – 10: Kevin, Edardy, Rajseran, Bobby, John S, Philipp, Lukas, Ian, Yaseen, Kin. Boon Yick in reserve. Colours: White, Black.
• Thursday, 11 December 2008, 9 to 10 pm, Sports Planet @ East Coast – 10: Tom, Franco, Shankar, Mike A, Gilbert, Ronak, Yaseen, Andy M, Nick, me. Murray in reserve. Colours: Red, White.
Anyone who can switch to Tuesday, please do. The priority system will apply to Wednesday and Thursday (but not to Tuesday, unless all the sessions fill up), so those playing both those days risk being bumped (later confirmations first). However, I’d rather it were voluntary.
SMS UPDATE: Shankar is in for Fico as well.
FICOff
@All: Santi’s comment is to be understood as a Yes to the game venue. Just got confirmation.
FICO is fine with me …distance? I m coming from Changi Village!!!..;)
could we use the next public holiday to have a game on the pitch @Loyang Ave (near Changi Villae)…;)…and after the game I would organize a “german” BBQ…!!!
Tom, is the session at FICO on Monday morning for 1 hr or 2 hr?
I read Yaseen’s comment on another thread which said that it’s $80 for 2 hrs on Hari Raya.
Would that make me drive from Pasir Ris to FICO? Probably would cos driving all the way there to play for 2 hrs makes it a lot more worthwhile than just 1 hr.
I’ll play on Tuesday at the cage please
Right now we have the following confirmations for Monday at FICO
Bobby, Tom, Santi, Manuel (reluctantly), Raj (enthusiastically, for the love of the game), Franco (conditionally, next time better be at Changi!), Shankar = 7.
Not yet committed: Jiv, Ian, Kevin.
@Kevin: I called them and they confirmed that it is $60 for 1 hour (cheaper than the rest) or $85.60 for 2 hours.
My opinion is that we can book it for 2 hours – if we get the 10-12 players needed.
Chicken / Egg story.
Hi Rajiv, I can play tuesday and will be in reserve for Thursday should there be any last minute cancellations.
ladi
Hi Tom, thanks for the info.
Put me down for FICO on Monday morning then, with a preference for 2 hrs of play.
Thanks to both you and Rajiv for trying to sort all this out at short notice. Much appreciated.
Kevin, if it’s 2 hours on Monday morning, will you bring your friends?
Pls add me to the Mon game thanks
I can try to. No guarantee again as most of them live in the Pasir Ris/Tampines area. Will have to make individual appeals. Let me know how many are needed and I’ll see what I can do.
2 hours will be a good deal and makes it worth while for anyone thats coming from the east .
Rajiv , you are not playing ??
At present, I’m also trying to get the Tuesday session going, so Monday and Tuesday might be a bit tough (especially if it’s 2 hours on Monday – it’s an age thing), but if you’re still 1 short by Sunday, count me in.
I don’t think Franco’s confirmation is conditional – he confirmed in one comment, and proposed a future session at Changi in another comment (plus an offer of a German BBQ!). It looked unrelated to me.
Kevin…the difference of KM between PP and FICO is approx. 15km which is 1/6 of 100km – 100km consumption is approx. 6ltr => that is one (1) more ltr of petrol = approx. 1.80SGD + average maintenance fee of 0.20SGD = 2 SGD !!! I guess we all can help you on this to cover as for 1 direction I could give you a lift!!!…:)
Thanks for the calculations Franco (I’ve never been one to go into this much detail) and the offer to help cover for my long journey, but it’s ok…I’m sure your German BBQ would more than make up for the trip to FICO.
Jiv, I see you forgot to take your humour pill this morning, eh?
Too much lateral thinking in one day.
It will be good if we could have more players , since its 2 hrs , probably we can play 3 teams .
Hi Redseason
What abt MAY ? She probably could fit in .
Yea Raj…you can’t wait until 17.12….:-)
Hi Franco ,
just trying my luck
enjoy…. it’s coming friday night and saturday night fever..:-)
MONDAY UPDATE: Bobby, Tom, Santi, Manuel, Raj, Franco, Shankar, Kevin, Damian = 9.
If required: Jiv
OUT: Ian (injured, but “Maybe” will play if required).
i can play tuesday at the cage. andy p
Hi Rajiv , if you have vacancy for Tuesday , count me in .
Update for Tuesday, 9 December 2008, 9 to 10 pm at The Cage (Kallang) – 9: May, Joel, Boon Yick, Murray, Reza, Ladi, Andy P, Rajseran, me. 1 more. Colours: Black, White.
Murray and Ladi are also in reserve for Thursday, so if either of them can play on Monday, or if anyone confirmed for Thursday can switch to Monday or Tuesday, we’ll fill up more places.
Tom, you could try giving Boris a call for the game on Monday morning at FICO. His number is here (go to the bottom of the page).
count me in for tuesday…have a nice weekend all
There’ll never be subscriptions for FIOFAFI, Tom, I can assure everyone of that.
I’m opposed to most forms of subscription services, because you never know what you’re getting for what you’re paying, which makes it hard to assess value for money, which I strongly believe in.
If you think about it, income tax is a form of subscription
.
FIOFAFI will remain pay-as-you-play for all time.
