Summary for 12 May 2008

Posted by rajiv on Tue 13 May 2008

We were supposed to have 17 at Bukit Timah campus last night (Kin was out before the game, and Jason was wrongly included), but at 8.15 pm, there were only 6 of us – Mark L, Gilbert, Clive, Bret, Tim C and me. Andreas had brought boot (with studs) and had rushed off to Queensway to buy hard court shoes (Mark L, and anyone else for that matter, please advise newcomers you introduce on the surface we play on), while Damian thought we were still playing based on time slots, and that he was down for the 9 pm slot, so they were both excused.

The rest filtered in between 8.15 pm and 8.40 pm – I understand that traffic was bad last night, but you know what Dennis would have had to say about such tardiness.

We started shortly after 8 pm with 6 which increased to 8 once Tim C arrived (being joined by two others who were hanging around) – Mark L, Clive, Tim C and G v Gilbert, Bret, Tim C and the barefooted boy. A lot of space and a lot of passing.

Once most people had arrived, (which grew to 19, including Chris and a friend, both of whom turned up without confirming), we played in three teams as follows:

(A) Mark L, Tim C, Boon Yick, Heath, Glenn (in white) + Tom, the black sheep, in black, who decided to join Whites.
(B) Bret, Gilbert, Yu Teik, Collin, Andrew P, two from Damian/Chris/his friend (Reds)
(C) Clive, Desmond, Sng, Andreas, Collin and me (Others).

Playing 10 minute games, the first game between Whites and Reds finished 2-2, with Whites scoring a late equaliser, and going on to win on penalties (as it was the first game, there were no previous winners to go out).

Others than defeated Whites, and held fort for several games. In the middle of that run, Tom and Mark C controversially called time early with the score 0-0 (which would have meant Others going on out the previous winners out rule). The game resumed for a further 3 minutes, during which time Others snatched the winner.

Others finally lost a game to Whites, who in turn lost to Reds. In the final game, Teik finally found his form and scored a late hat-trick.

Yesterday was also Andrew P’s last game before he leaves for Melbourne today, so a few photos were taken. Here’s wishing Andrew all the best in Melbourne.
